Chapter 6 - The Unraveling
Chaos erupted in the ballroom. Several elderly relatives fainted into their chairs; others scrambled toward the exits, only to find the doors securely locked by hotel security pending full identification checks.
Elena didn't panic. She stood calmly by the sweetheart table, watching Preston get hauled away in handcuffs while he screamed obscenities that would have made a sailor blush.
"You can't arrest me!" Preston bellowed, his custom tuxedo straining against his thrashing shoulders as he was dragged past the tier of wedding cake. "Mom! Dad! Do something! Tell them who we are!"
My mother collapsed onto a velvet chair, her pristine composure completely shattered. She didn't look at Preston. She didn't look at my father. Her hollow, terrified eyes slowly turned toward me.
For the first time in thirty years, my mother looked small.
I walked slowly across the polished marble floor, stopping just a few feet away from her. The blood on my sleeve had dried into a dark, crusty stain, but I didn't care.
"You told me not to make a scene, Mother," I said softly, the words carrying easily across the silent room. "You told me to protect your precious family image. But you forgot one simple truth."
My mother’s lips trembled. "Evelyn... please..."
"A family built on lies and cruelty isn't a family," I continued, my voice steady and cold. "It’s a cult. And I just burned it to the ground."
Officer Miller turned his attention to Elena next. "And you, Mrs. Vance—or whatever your real name is. You're coming with us too. Corporate conspiracy, wire fraud, and accessory to assault."

Elena offered a chilling, aristocratic smile as the second pair of handcuffs clicked into place around her delicate wrists. "Enjoy your inheritance, Evelyn. Your parents are entirely bankrupt as of ten minutes ago. My father’s legal team filed the final asset seizure papers the moment I walked down the aisle."
She turned and walked out of the ballroom head-high, leaving behind a ruined wedding, two hundred horrified witnesses, and a dynasty reduced to ash.
