Chapter 16 - In the Dark

Chaos erupted in the span of a single heartbeat.
Bang!
A wild gunshot echoed through the metal rafters as Viktor fired blindly into the darkness.
Alexander didn't hesitate. He dropped into a tactical roll behind a steel shipping container, his night-vision optics snapping down over his eyes. In the emerald glow of the lenses, he saw Viktor scrambling across the catwalk toward the emergency control panel.
Parker moved with quiet efficiency from the opposite flank, intercepting Viktor’s two remaining armed guards and neutralizing them with silent, practiced precision.
Julian’s voice cut through the dark like a blade. “End of the line, Viktor.”
Before Viktor could pull the trigger on his detonator, Julian materialized out of the shadows like an apparition, tackling his cousin hard against the steel railing of the catwalk. The detonator slipped from Viktor’s fingers, clattering loudly against the metal grating before tumbling down into the abyss below.
A fierce, brutal struggle ensued in the dark. Viktor swung wildly with a combat knife, but Julian—seasoned by decades of syndicate turf wars—parried the strike with ruthless efficiency, disarming him with a sharp twist of the wrist and slamming Viktor’s face against the steel pillar.
“It’s over,” Julian whispered, his voice dangerously low as he pinned Viktor to the floor with a knee across his chest.
Parker flipped the manual backup generator switch, and harsh white light flooded the warehouse once more.
Viktor lay sprawled on the catwalk, bleeding from the lip, handcuffed and utterly defeated.
Alexander walked up the metal stairs, stepping over the discarded detonator, and reached down to pick up the encrypted master data drive that had fallen from Viktor’s tactical vest.

“The ledger,” Alexander said, holding the small titanium drive up to the light.
“It’s all there,” Julian said, hauling Viktor to his feet with one hand. “Every offshore account, every shell corporation, every asset the Syndicate ever tried to hide. Hand this to the federal prosecutors, and the Syndicate won’t just be crippled—they’ll be erased.”
