Chapter 6 - The Island Sanctuary

The Bainbridge Island estate was a sprawling, stone-and-glass fortress nestled among towering pines, completely cut off from the mainland by slate-grey waters and dense fog. As the SUV wound down the private drive, the heavy iron gates parted automatically, recognizing Parker's clearance code.

They stepped out into the damp coastal air. The silence of the island was a stark contrast to the chaotic neon hum of Seattle.

"Parker, secure the perimeter," Alexander instructed, handing his encrypted phone to his driver. "Activate the thermal sensors and lock down all communication relays except for our secure satellite uplink."

"Right away, sir," Parker said, limping slightly as he hurried toward the security room.

Inside the grand foyer, the massive stone fireplace was already cold. Alexander led Aura into the library, a vast room lined with leather-bound books and smelling of cedar and old paper. He knelt down beside her, removing the oversized cashmere coat and draping it over a leather armchair.

"You're safe here," Alexander said, offering a reassuring smile. "No one can reach us on this island."

"Promise?" Aura whispered, her lower lip trembling just a fraction.

"I promise," Alexander said, wrapping his arms around her in a fierce, protective hug. It was the first time he had ever held his daughter. The realization sent a warm, overwhelming wave of emotion crashing through his chest, anchoring him in a way no corporate victory ever could.

Suddenly, the estate’s overhead lights flickered once. Then twice.

Then died completely.

The backup generator kicked in three seconds later, but the automated security monitors on the wall flashed a terrifying bright crimson.

Perimeter breach. Sector Four. North Dock.

Alexander stood up slowly, his jaw clenching as cold fury replaced his shock. They had tracked them. Not through the transponder—through something else.

Aura looked up at him, her amber eyes wide. "They found us."
