Chapter 9 - The Wrath of the RussoDante had smelled the trap the moment Nico mentioned Marcus's silence. He hadn't gone to the warehouse; he had turned his Maybach around and taken the private elevator straight to the penthouse roof, breaching the penthouse through the emergency service stairwell.

Marcus didn't even have time to turn around.
Dante slammed into him like a freight train, driving Marcus’s head straight through the drywall. The MP5 clattered across the hardwood floor.
"You son of a bitch!" Dante roared, raining down a torrent of brutal, unchecked punches that shattered Marcus’s jaw and sent blood spraying across the white wallpaper.
Marcus spat a mouthful of teeth, laughing a bloody, hysterical laugh as Dante pinned him to the floor with a knee on his chest. "You're too late, Dante! Look at her! Her heart is giving out! The stress... the shock... she’s dying in your arms right now!"
Dante glanced back. Elena was slumped against the bed frame, her lips turning blue, her eyes fluttering shut as the medical monitor emitted a continuous, flatlining drone.

Dante abandoned Marcus, diving across the room to scoop Elena into his arms.
"Elena! Look at me!" Dante shouted, pressing his lips to her forehead, his voice cracking with a desperation he had never shown another living soul. "You hear me? You survived seven years in the dark for our girls! You are not dying tonight!"
