CHAPTER 1 — "The Woman They Tried to Throw Out"

The laughter started before anyone even knew her name.

"This event is for VIP guests only," the host announced loudly enough for the entire showroom to hear.

More than two hundred wealthy guests turned toward the entrance.

Standing beneath the sparkling crystal chandeliers was an elderly woman whose clothes looked older than most of the classic cars on display. Her back was bent with age. Her shoes were cracked. A faded gray scarf covered her silver hair.

Beside her stood an eight-year-old boy gripping her wrinkled hand so tightly his knuckles had turned white.

His eyes sparkled with excitement as he stared at the Ferraris, Bugattis, vintage Rolls-Royces, and one-of-a-kind Aston Martins.

"This is amazing, Grandma..."

Before she could answer, two security guards stepped forward.

"Ma'am, you'll need to leave."

She smiled politely.

"I believe we're expected."

The host chuckled.

"I'm afraid you're mistaken."

He glanced at her coat with obvious disgust.

"The cheapest tire in this room costs more than everything you're wearing."

Several guests laughed.

One influencer began livestreaming.

"Look at this... someone brought their grandma from a homeless shelter."

Comments flooded the livestream.

'This is hilarious.'

'Wrong place, Grandma.'

'Someone buy her a bus ticket.'

The little boy lowered his head.

"Grandma... maybe we should go."

She gently squeezed his hand.

"No."

Her voice remained calm.

"We came because your grandfather wanted us here."

The crowd laughed even louder.

One businessman smirked.

"Her husband probably fixed bicycles."

Another guest whispered,

"Someone call social services."

Even photographers ignored the million-dollar cars and pointed their cameras toward the old woman.

The host folded his arms.

"If you don't leave voluntarily, security will escort you out."

The boy's eyes filled with tears.

He hated seeing adults laugh at his grandmother.

Then...

She slowly reached into the inside pocket of her faded coat.

The crowd expected her to pull out a crumpled invitation.

Instead...

She placed an old brass key on the nearest Bugatti.

The room fell strangely quiet.

The key was scratched with age.

Heavy.

Covered in tiny engraved initials.

The showroom owner—who had been greeting celebrities across the room—saw it from nearly fifty feet away.

His face instantly turned pale.

Without saying a word...

He began running.

Not walking.

Running.

Straight toward the old woman.

The laughter stopped.

Nobody understood why.

Until the owner suddenly dropped to one knee in front of her.

"Mrs. Eleanor..."

His voice trembled.

May you like

"I've been waiting twenty-three years for someone to bring that key back."

The entire showroom froze.
