CHAPTER 1: THE GUARD EVERYONE MOCKED

The rumors began weeks before she arrived.

Cell Block D was the most violent section of Blackstone State Prison. Murderers, gang leaders, armed robbers, and career criminals filled every cell. Fights broke out almost daily. Even experienced officers requested transfers rather than work there.

When prison officials announced that a new correctional officer would take charge of the block, the inmates immediately began speculating.

"Probably some ex-Marine."

"Maybe a former SWAT officer."

"They finally found someone crazy enough to handle us."

The prisoners expected a giant.

Instead, on Monday morning, the massive steel doors opened, and a woman barely four feet five inches tall stepped inside.

The entire block fell silent.

Then came the laughter.

Loud.

Cruel.

Relentless.

The woman wore a perfectly pressed black uniform. Her badge read:

OFFICER EMMA RICHARDS.

She carried no visible weapon except standard equipment.

To the inmates, she looked harmless.

One prisoner pointed and laughed.

"Is this a joke?"

Another yelled from his cell.

"My daughter is taller than her!"

Soon dozens of inmates were laughing.

Emma didn't react.

Not even a glance.

She calmly signed the duty log, checked security reports, and began her patrol.

"Cell inspection in five minutes," she announced.

The mocking immediately intensified.

Whenever she passed, inmates crouched down to match her height.

Some barked like dogs.

Others pretended to search for her with binoculars.

"Hey little guard!"

"Need a booster seat?"

"Can you even reach the top bunk?"

The entire block treated her like a circus attraction.

But Emma remained calm.

Day after day.

Week after week.

She never yelled.

Never threatened.

Never lost her temper.

And that made the inmates believe something dangerous.

They believed she was weak.

Especially one prisoner.

Marcus Kane.

Six foot seven.

Three hundred pounds.

Covered in gang tattoos.

Serving multiple life sentences.

Even guards avoided direct confrontation with him.

Marcus controlled most of Cell Block D.

When he laughed, everyone laughed.

When he became angry, people got hurt.

And Marcus hated Emma.

Not because she punished him.

Not because she disrespected him.

Because she ignored him.

Every insult bounced off her like it meant nothing.

That wounded his pride.

So he decided to humiliate her publicly.

One afternoon during yard time, he stepped out of line.

Every inmate immediately noticed.

The yard became silent.

Marcus slowly approached Emma.

Towering over her.

Smiling.

Predatory.

"Hey, dwarf."

Emma looked up calmly.

"Return to line."

Marcus laughed.

"No."

The inmates grinned.

This was the moment they had been waiting for.

"What are you going to do?" Marcus asked. "Throw me around?"

The crowd exploded with laughter.

Marcus leaned down until his face was inches from hers.

"Go ahead. Show everybody what happens when someone disobeys you."

Emma's eyes never moved.

Her expression never changed.

For several seconds, neither spoke.

Then Emma quietly said:

"Last warning."

Marcus spread his arms.

"Make me."

The prisoners cheered.

Nobody noticed that several senior officers watching from the security tower suddenly became very nervous.

Because unlike the inmates...

May you like

They knew exactly who Emma Richards really was.

And they knew Marcus Kane had just made the biggest mistake of his life.
