Nobody spoke.
The silence was heavier than any punishment.
Ryan finally stepped forward.
"I... I didn't know who you were."
Ethan smiled faintly.
"And if I had truly been only a janitor..."
"...would that have made your behavior acceptable?"
Ryan couldn't answer.
Neither could anyone else.
The board expected immediate firings.

"No one is being fired today."
The room exhaled in relief.

"Not because you're innocent."

He smiled.

Ethan called everyone together again.
Ryan entered looking exhausted.
For thirty days he had cleaned bathrooms, emptied trash bins, and worked overnight shifts.
He no longer looked arrogant.
"I was wrong," he admitted.
"I thought leadership meant power."
"I've learned it means responsibility."
Ethan studied him for a long moment.

"You finally understand."
"But that doesn't erase what happened."
Ryan lowered his head.
"I know."
"I'm ready to accept whatever decision you make."
Everyone expected Ethan to fire him.

A much younger Ethan standing beside a factory floor.
Next to him was a smiling janitor.
On the back was a handwritten note:

Ryan burst into tears.
Then Ethan revealed the final secret.
"I was never the majority shareholder."
Gasps echoed across the room.
"The truth is..."
"I own one hundred percent of Titan Global."
Every board member froze.
The shares they thought they controlled...
Had always belonged to him through anonymous family trusts.
The board had never held real power.
It had all been a test.
