CHAPTER 1 — The Girl Everyone Laughed At

The military convoy rolled slowly through the dense pine forest before stopping inside one of the country's most isolated training camps.

The place was hidden deep in the mountains.

No tourists.

No civilians.

Only soldiers.

Only discipline.

Only survival.

Around the campfire, experienced soldiers were cleaning rifles, sharpening knives, and joking to pass the time after another exhausting patrol.

"We're getting another batch of recruits today," one man sighed.

Another rolled his eyes.

"Great... more kids who don't know which end of the rifle points forward."

The oldest soldier smiled.

"Relax. You were just as clueless once."

Laughter echoed through the camp.

Moments later...

An old military jeep pulled through the entrance.

Five recruits stepped out.

Four young men...

...and one young woman.

Silence.

Then someone burst into laughter.

"You're kidding."

"A girl?"

"Who approved this?"

Another soldier folded his arms.

"I give her three days."

Someone else shouted loudly enough for everyone to hear.

"Hope she knows how to make coffee!"

The entire camp erupted with laughter.

The young woman never reacted.

She quietly grabbed her backpack, adjusted the straps, and walked toward the barracks without saying a single word.

That irritated them even more.

Normally, new recruits argued.

Some cried.

Others tried proving themselves.

She simply ignored every insult.

Which somehow felt even more insulting.

Her name was Emily Carter.

Twenty-three years old.

Small frame.

Calm eyes.

Short brown hair tied tightly behind her head.

Nothing about her looked intimidating.

She carried no medals.

No badges.

No stories.

To everyone there...

...she looked like an ordinary civilian who had accidentally walked into the wrong place.

Over the next several days...

the bullying became routine.

Whenever she passed by...

"Hey, coffee girl!"

"Lost your kitchen?"

"Need someone to carry your backpack?"

Some soldiers deliberately threw extra equipment beside her bunk.

Others "accidentally" splashed muddy water across her boots.

Someone even hid her sleeping bag.

She never complained.

Never argued.

Never reported anyone.

She simply found another blanket...

cleaned her boots...

picked up the heavy gear...

and kept working.

That silence confused people.

"What is she trying to prove?" one soldier whispered.

"No idea."

"Maybe she's too scared to speak."

They laughed again.

Only one man wasn't laughing.

Captain Daniel Hayes.

The commander watched everything from a distance.

Every insult.

Every prank.

Every cruel joke.

Yet...

he never interfered.

The soldiers assumed he simply agreed with them.

But nobody noticed that every evening...

Captain Hayes quietly opened Emily's personnel file.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Each time...

he closed it without saying a word.

Three nights later...

Rain poured over the forest.

Visibility dropped to almost nothing.

The camp became unusually quiet.

Most soldiers had already gone inside the tents.

Emily was walking alone after finishing inventory.

That was exactly the moment four experienced soldiers had been waiting for.

They stepped out from behind the supply truck.

Blocking every direction.

One smiled.

"So..."

"You still think you belong here?"

Another moved closer.

"You know what?"

"We're tired of babysitting you."

The third soldier circled behind her.

"Maybe tomorrow you should ask for a transfer."

The fourth laughed.

"Or better yet..."

"Go home."

Emily looked around.

No witnesses.

No officers.

Only darkness.

Only rain.

Only four men surrounding her.

One soldier leaned closer.

"A woman should know her place."

The others laughed.

Waiting.

Expecting tears.

Fear.

Begging.

Anything.

Emily's hands slowly tightened into fists.

Her breathing became steady.

Her expression changed.

For the very first time...

She smiled.

Not nervously.

Not politely.

A cold...

confident...

almost dangerous smile.

One soldier frowned.

"What are you smiling about?"

Emily slowly reached into the inside pocket of her uniform jacket.

The laughter instantly stopped.

Because whatever she was about to pull out...

May you like

...made every soldier suddenly take one cautious step backward.

To Be Continued...
