CHAPTER 1 – THE WOMAN WHO NEVER FOUGHT BACK

The prison yard fell strangely quiet the moment the new inmate stepped outside.
Every pair of eyes followed her.
She wasn't the biggest.
She wasn't covered in tattoos.
She didn't walk like someone trying to prove herself.
Instead, she kept her head down, her hands folded in front of her, as if she had already accepted whatever nightmare waited behind those razor-wire fences.
That was exactly why everyone thought she'd be an easy target.
At the far end of the yard stood Monica Graves.
Six feet tall.
Built like a heavyweight boxer.
The unofficial ruler of Cell Block C.
People didn't challenge Monica.
They survived her.
The women around her laughed as she slowly walked toward the newcomer.
"Fresh meat," one inmate whispered.
"She won't last until dinner," another replied.
The guards noticed.
None of them moved.
Everyone knew the unwritten rule.
As long as nobody was bleeding...
Nobody cared.
Monica stopped inches away from the smaller woman.
"So..." she sneered.
"What's your name?"
The newcomer didn't answer.
She simply stared at the concrete.
That silence only made the crowd laugh louder.
Monica shoved her shoulder.
Hard.
The young woman stumbled backward until her back hit the chain-link fence.
Still...
She refused to fight.
"Look at me when I'm talking to you!" Monica shouted, grabbing the front of her prison uniform.
Nothing.
Not a word.
Not a scream.
Not even fear.
Only silence.
The crowd began chanting.
"Fight! Fight! Fight!"
Monica smiled.
She loved an audience.
She shoved the woman again.
This time harder.
The newcomer's head struck the metal fence with a loud clang.
A thin line of blood appeared beside her eyebrow.
Gasps echoed across the yard.
Everyone expected the newcomer to snap.
Instead...
She quietly wiped the blood away.
Then whispered only four words.
"I don't want trouble."
Monica exploded with laughter.
"You don't get to choose that in here."
She raised her fist.
The yard fell completely silent.
Even the guards stopped talking.
Everyone knew one punch from Monica could send someone to the infirmary...
Or worse.
The fist flew forward—
But before it landed...
A deep voice echoed across the yard.
"Touch her..."
"...and you'll answer to me."
Every inmate froze.
Even Monica slowly lowered her hand.
Because that voice belonged to someone no one had expected to see outside solitary confinement.
And for the first time in years...
May you like
The most dangerous prisoner in the entire facility had just chosen a side.
To be continued...
