CHAPTER 4 – THE MAN WHO CALLED HER “DAUGHTER”

The room fell into complete silence.
Lily stared at the stranger.
Her heartbeat pounded so loudly she could barely hear herself breathe.
The man smiled as though they were old friends.
"You've grown into exactly the woman I expected."
Raven stepped between them.
"Don't listen to him!"
The stranger chuckled.
"Still protecting her after all these years?"
"You really never learn."
Lily looked back and forth between them.
"My daughter?" she whispered.
"What does that mean?"
The man slowly removed his expensive watch and rolled up his sleeve.
Tattooed beneath his wrist was the Hawthorne family crest—the exact same symbol engraved inside Lily's silver locket.
"You think that's proof?" Raven snapped.
"Anyone can copy a tattoo."
The man's smile widened.
"But not this."
He reached into his coat and placed a faded birth certificate on the dusty table.
Mother:
Emily Hawthorne.
Father:
Jonathan Hawthorne.
Child:
Lillian Grace Hawthorne.
Then he slid another document beside it.
An adoption order.
Signed twenty-two years ago.
Under the name...
Victor Hale.
Lily's hands trembled.
Victor looked at her with gentle eyes.
"I adopted you after your parents died."
"I searched for you for decades."
"I wanted to bring you home."
For one impossible moment...
He sounded sincere.
Raven suddenly burst into laughter.
Cold.
Bitter.
Dangerous.
"You forgot one page."
Victor's smile disappeared.
Raven reached beneath an old washing machine and pulled out a weathered envelope wrapped in plastic.
"I buried this here the day they arrested me."
She handed it to Lily.
Inside...
Was a photograph.
Jonathan Hawthorne.
Emily Hawthorne.
A tiny baby.
And standing beside them...
Victor.
But he wasn't smiling.
He was holding a pistol.
Another photograph fell onto the floor.
This one had been secretly taken only minutes later.
Smoke.
Broken glass.
Emily lying on the marble floor.
Jonathan bleeding beside the staircase.
And Victor...
Walking calmly away.
Lily gasped.
Victor's warm expression vanished instantly.
"So..." he sighed.
"You actually kept the evidence."
Raven nodded.
"I knew one day she'd come back."
Victor clapped slowly.
"I underestimated you."
Then his voice turned icy.
"It doesn't matter anymore."
He pressed a button hidden inside his watch.
A deafening explosion shook the prison.
The entire building trembled.
Concrete rained from the ceiling.
Outside, flames shot into the night sky.
The power died.
Emergency lights flickered.
Doors across the prison unlocked all at once.
Hundreds of inmates poured into the hallways.
Blackridge Prison had become total chaos.
Victor smiled.
"No witnesses."
"No evidence."
"No survivors."
He pulled a handgun from inside his jacket.
And pointed it directly at Lily's forehead.
"I should have finished this twenty-two years ago."
Before he could pull the trigger—
BANG!
The gun flew from Victor's hand.
Everyone turned.
Standing in the smoke was Monica.
The feared queen of Cell Block C.
Holding a guard's revolver with both hands.
Her voice shook.
"I don't know who these people are..."
"But nobody murders a woman in my prison."
Victor laughed.
"You just declared war."
Monica smirked.
"No."
She looked behind him.
"You did."
Victor slowly turned around...
And his face drained of color.
Every inmate in the corridor—more than three hundred women—was standing behind Raven.
For the first time in Blackridge history...
Every rival.
Every gang.
Every enemy.
Had united.
Not to escape.
But to protect one woman.
May you like
And Lily still had no idea why they were all willing to die for her.
