CHAPTER 8 – The Real Heir Steps Out of the Shadows

Every screen in the bunker displayed the same woman.

She stood inside a modern office overlooking the city skyline.

Behind her hung the logo of an international security company.

Daniel stared in disbelief.

"Sophie..."

The woman shook her head.

"No."

"I haven't been Sophie for a very long time."

"My name is Sarah Brooks."

James gripped his pistol tighter.

"Impossible."

"I made sure you disappeared forever."

Sarah smiled.

"You kidnapped the wrong child."

Everyone froze.

Eleanor slowly closed her eyes.

"The truth..." she whispered.

"The real Sophie escaped that night."

Sarah continued,

"Richard found me three years later."

"He wanted to bring me home."

"But I refused."

Daniel looked stunned.

"You knew Dad?"

Sarah nodded.

"Every year."

"He visited me in secret."

"He taught me business."

"He trained me."

"And together..."

"...we built a plan to destroy every person who betrayed our family."

James' face turned pale.

Richard had never been one step behind.

He had been ten steps ahead.

Sarah pressed a button on her desk.

Suddenly, every television station in the country interrupted its programming.

A live broadcast began.

Hidden recordings.

Secret bank transfers.

Bribery.

Money laundering.

James' recorded confessions.

The evidence flooded the internet within seconds.

Police sirens echoed outside the mansion.

James spun toward the hidden exit—

—but dozens of armed federal agents stormed into the bunker.

"Federal agents!"

"Drop the weapon!"

James fired once...

Then ran toward the emergency tunnel.

He disappeared into the darkness.

The agents chased after him.

Minutes later...

Only silence remained.

Daniel looked at Sarah on the screen.

"So..."

"You really are Father's only heir?"

Sarah's expression turned unexpectedly sad.

"No."

Richard's final lesson was never about money.

She held up one last envelope.

"The final will."

She looked straight into her siblings' eyes.

"When you hear what Dad actually left behind..."

May you like

"...you'll wish the fortune had never existed."
