Chapter 11 - The Empire Expands

The skyline of Albany looked entirely different through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the newly acquired regional headquarters.

Sixteen months after taking control of Baldwin-Gallagher Logistics, I wasn't just defending my territory—I was conquering new ground. The hostile buyout of the failing Albany transport firm had been finalized three weeks ago, and today was my first official inspection of the northern shipping hub.

Samantha Vance walked into my temporary corner office, placing a stack of freshly bound documents on the sleek glass desk.

"The regional transfer is complete," Samantha announced, smoothing down the lapel of her charcoal blazer. "The Albany drivers voted overwhelmingly to accept our new contract structure. No more pay cuts, fully funded health benefits, and a performance-based bonus model. They're practically treating you like a corporate savior."

"I’m just doing what Lucas intended to do before his life was cut short," I said, spinning my executive pen between my fingers. "How are the integration audits looking on the administrative side?"

"Clean," Samantha smiled, pulling up a tablet. "We found two more middle managers who were taking kickbacks under the previous ownership. We handed their names and financial trails over to the state attorney general's office this morning. They won't be bothering us again."

"Good. Keep the pressure on. I want complete transparency across every tier of this company."

As Samantha left to coordinate the afternoon board meeting, I walked over to the window. Down on the tarmac, dozens of semi-trucks bearing the bold, crisp green-and-gold emblem of Gallagher Logistics rolled out in tight, synchronized formations.

My father was currently locked behind the high-security walls of a federal penitentiary three hundred miles away, wearing an orange jumpsuit and breaking rocks metaphorically if not literally. He had spent his entire life believing that ruthlessness and deceit were the only currencies that mattered. He had tried to break me when I was at my most vulnerable, assuming I would simply crumble into dust.

Instead, his malice had become the anvil upon which my strength was forged.
