Chapter 7 - The Restitution and the GardenSix months later, the legal storm had settled into the quiet, steady rhythm of absolute justice.

Julian Vance and Chloe Vance accepted a plea deal on the eve of their federal trial—pleading guilty to all counts in exchange for the government dropping the death-penalty-equivalent sentencing enhancements, though they still received consecutive sentences totaling thirty-five years without the possibility of parole. Their assets, including their luxury home, high-end vehicles, and hidden offshore accounts, were seized entirely by the state.

Through court-ordered restitution and emergency asset recovery, every single penny—plus substantial compounding interest—was successfully restored to their mother’s rightful estate, along with millions recovered for other victims of Julian’s syndicate.

Back in St. Paul, the backyard of Elena’s home was bathed in the warm, golden afternoon light of late autumn.

Mom—looking healthier, stronger, and decades younger than she had six months ago—sat comfortably on a cushioned wrought-iron patio chair, sipping fresh lemonade and watching colorful monarch butterflies flit among the blooming chrysanthemums. The dark bruises had completely healed, the rope scars had faded to faint silver lines, and the constant, terrified look in her eyes had been replaced by a serene, peaceful light.

Elena walked out onto the patio carrying a plate of freshly baked apple cinnamon scones, setting them gently on the glass table.

“How are the roses holding up, Mom?” Elena asked with a warm, loving smile, pulling up a chair beside her.

Mom reached out, taking Elena’s hand and patting it gently. Her skin was warm, steady, and strong.

“They are blooming better than ever, my dear,” Mom said softly, her eyes shining with unshed tears of gratitude. “Just like this house. Just like my heart.”

Elena wrapped her arm around her mother’s shoulders, feeling the deep, unbreakable bond of a love that distance, deception, and cruelty could never destroy.

“You’re safe now, Mom,” Elena whispered, looking out over the peaceful garden. “Forever.”
