Chapter 6 - The Ultimate Retribution

The audio recording began to play over the state-of-the-art sound system. It was crystal clear.

“She’s in the mansion right now. The DNA test is happening. If Beatrice finds out the truth—if she finds out we orchestrated the kidnapping to secure Chloe’s inheritance—we are going to prison for life. Fix this. Now.”

It was Evelyn’s voice. Recorded by the phone tapping software Julian had installed on her burner phone the moment Maya told him the story.

The ballroom erupted into chaotic whispers. The board of directors stood up in shock. Reporters began flashing their cameras frantically, capturing the raw, unadulterated terror on Evelyn's face.

"It's a lie! It's an AI voice generation!" Evelyn screamed, her voice cracking as she looked around desperately. "Chloe, tell them!"

But Chloe was already backing away, crying, realizing their empire was crumbling.

Duchess Beatrice stood up from her seat, her eyes burning with a ferocious, vengeful wrath. She marched up to the stage, looked at the screen displaying the embezzlement records, and then looked at Maya.

Julian stepped forward, holding a new document. "This is a federally supervised DNA test, performed three hours ago by the State Bureau of Investigation, using blood drawn directly under federal watch. Maya is a 99.9% match. She is Clara Vance."

Beatrice turned to Evelyn. Without a single word, the elderly Duchess raised her hand and delivered a shattering slap across Evelyn’s face, sending her crashing into the podium.

"You murdered my daughter," Beatrice roared, her voice shaking the room. "You stole my granddaughter! You fed on my grief for twenty years while you bled my family dry!"

Right on cue, the doors of the ballroom burst open again. This time, it wasn't a guest. It was the Federal Bureau of Investigation, accompanied by the police.

"Evelyn Vance, you are under arrest for grand larceny, financial fraud, and the conspiracy to commit murder," the lead agent declared, slamming handcuffs onto Evelyn’s wrists in front of millions watching via live broadcast. Chloe was escorted out right behind her, weeping as her dreams of royalty vanished forever.

The room fell silent once more as the criminals were dragged away.

Beatrice turned to Maya—to Clara. The fierce matriarch’s eyes filled with tears, her hands trembling just as they had two nights ago. But this time, it wasn't from grief.

"Clara..." Beatrice whispered, opening her arms.

Clara walked up the steps, leaving the waitress she used to be behind, and stepped into her grandmother's embrace. The crowd erupted into a standing ovation, but Clara didn't hear them. She looked down at the Willow Diamond around her neck.

Justice had been served. The lost princess had finally come home.

💥 THE SHOCKING PLOT TWIST ENDING 💥

Three months later.

Evelyn was locked away in a maximum-security prison, awaiting a life sentence. Clara had officially taken her place as the CEO of the Vance Global Empire, running the company with brilliant efficiency alongside Julian.

Clara walked into the maximum-security visitor's room to face Evelyn one last time. Evelyn sat behind the glass, looking gaunt, defeated, and bitter.

"You think you won, Clara?" Evelyn sneered through the intercom. "You think you're the rightful heir? You're just as much of a pawn as I was."

Clara looked at her coldly. "You're delusional. The company is thriving. My grandmother and I are closer than ever."

Evelyn burst into a chilling, manic laughter that echoed through the glass.

"Oh, you sweet, naive girl," Evelyn whispered, leaning in close. "Who do you think gave me the money to hire the hitman twenty years ago? Do you really think a daughter-in-law had access to the Vance secret accounts back then? I was just the executioner. The person who wanted your mother Lilith dead... was the person who wanted total control over the legacy before Lilith could change the inheritance rules."

Clara’s heart stopped. A cold dread washed over her. "What are you talking about?"

"Lilith was going to dissolve the Vance Empire and give it all to charity," Evelyn smiled wickedly. "Your precious grandmother, Beatrice, couldn't let her legacy be destroyed. Beatrice authorized the hit. She just didn't know I was going to take you too. She played the grieving mother for twenty years to cover her own tracks."

Clara stood up, her breath catching in her throat, staggering backward out of the visiting room.

That evening, Clara stood in the grand study of the Vance Mansion. Duchess Beatrice sat in her armchair, sipping tea, smiling warmly at her. "Ah, Clara, my darling. You look pale. Is everything alright?"

Clara looked at the elderly woman—the powerful, loving grandmother who had held her so tightly. Then, Clara’s eyes drifted to the desk calendar.

The date of her mother's death twenty years ago matched perfectly with a massive, unexplained wire transfer signature in the old family archive. A signature written in Beatrice's own flawless, elegant handwriting.
