Chapter 4 - THE DESPERATE ALLIANCE

The red emergency lights began to flash frantically across Block C. A siren blared—a deep, mechanical wail that signaled an internal breach.

WARNING: LEAGUE 4 CONTAINMENT FAILURE. BLOCK D ACCESS GATES UNLOCKED.

Over the PA system, Warden Sterling's voice echoed, cold and warped by static.

"Attention all inmates of Block D. The system is experiencing a total failure. The guard patrols have been withdrawn. The woman named Maya Vance in Block C holds the key to your freedom. Kill her, and the main perimeter gates will open. You have one hour."

The announcement ended with a static pop.

Silence fell over the block, followed by the terrifying, heavy metallic clanging of the blast doors dividing Block C and Block D slowly grinding open.

"Oh God..." Martha screamed from her cell. "He's released the hellhounds! He's going to get us all killed!"

Block D was where the state kept the absolute worst of humanity—ex-mercenaries, cartel hitmen transferred to state custody, and ruthless sociopaths who were too violent for normal prison populations. They weren't just street bullies like Vanessa; they were trained killers.

From the dark corridor of Block D, heavy steps echoed. Dozens of men and women armed with tactical knives, heavy iron bars, and improvised weapons poured into the common area like a wave of rabid wolves.

At the head of this nightmare army was a man known as Kruger—a former spetsnaz operative turned mercenary who had been serving three life sentences for high treason. He was a mountain of a man, scarred, with dead eyes and a cold smile.

"Where is she?" Kruger growled, snapping a metal pipe in half with his bare hands. "Where is the little ghost girl?"

Maya stood at the center of the yard. She looked around. She was completely surrounded. Fifty dangerous killers against one.

She turned to Tina. "Get inside the utility closet and lock it from the inside. Don't come out no matter what you hear."

"Maya, no! They'll kill you!" Tina sobbed.

"Lock the door, Tina," Maya commanded, her voice absolute. Tina obeyed, running into the closet and sliding the heavy bolt shut.

Maya turned back to face the mob. But as she prepared for the fight of her life, she heard footsteps behind her.

It wasn't an enemy.

It was Martha, holding a heavy metal tray. Beside her were Lexi and five other female inmates from Block C. Even Roxie, holding her broken wrist with a makeshift splint, stepped up beside Maya.

Maya looked at them, genuinely surprised for the first time since she entered the prison. "What are you doing? Get back."

"Listen to me, kid," Martha said, her jaw set with a rare determination. "We've been cattle in this cage for years. Vanessa hurt us, Sterling used us, and those monsters in Block D treat us like meat. You gave us our dignity back today. We might not be elite assassins, but we aren't letting you fight alone."

Lexi raised a sharpened steel pipe, a dark grin on her face. "Besides, I hate Kruger's face. Let me get one good swing in."

Maya looked at the small group of women standing beside her. A rare, subtle smirk touched the corner of her lips.

"Fine," Maya said, her eyes darkening as she dropped into a low combat stance. "Protect my flanks. Don't engage Kruger directly. Leave him to me."

"ATTACK!" Kruger roared.

layout of the fight was instant chaos.

The mob from Block D surged forward like a tidal wave of steel and violence. The inmates of Block C held the line, using cafeteria tables as makeshift shields, fighting with absolute desperation for their lives.

Maya moved like a phantom through the chaos.

She ducked under a pipe swing from an ex-cartel hitman, grabbed his arm, executed a shoulder throw that sent him crashing into two other attackers, and snatched his tactical knife mid-air.

SWISH! SWISH!

In three quick strikes, she incapacitated three mercenaries, cutting their leg tendons with surgical precision without landing a single fatal blow. She was a whirlwind of lethal efficiency—every move calculated, every strike disabling a threat.

"Is that all you've got?!" Kruger yelled, lunging at Maya from behind with a massive iron crowbar.

Maya sensed the strike coming. She spun around, blocking the heavy crowbar with her forearm guard. The impact rattled her bones, sending a sharp sting up her spine. Kruger laughed, pushing his massive weight down, trying to crush her skull.

"You're fast, girl!" Kruger snarled, sweat dripping from his scarred chin. "But speed doesn't mean shit against raw strength!"

"You're wrong," Maya whispered in his ear. "Speed is force. Force is mass multiplied by acceleration."

Before Kruger could comprehend her words, Maya drove her heel straight into the side of his knee.

CRACK!

Kruger’s knee joint bent backward at an impossible angle. He screamed in agony, dropping to one knee. Maya leaped into the air, wrapping her legs around his neck in a flawless flying armbar, twisting her hips violently as they hit the ground.

SNAP!

Kruger’s shoulder popped out of its socket. He howled in pain, dropping his weapon, totally incapacitated.

The remaining Block D mercenaries stopped in their tracks. They looked at their legendary leader writhing on the floor, then looked at Maya, who stood up slowly, her body covered in sweat and minor cuts, her blue eyes glowing with terrifying intensity.

They dropped their weapons one by one. The fight was over.

The inmates of Block C cheered—a deafening roar of victory that echoed through the entire facility. Martha hugged Lexi, and even Roxie let out a breath of relief.

But Maya didn't celebrate. She looked up at the ceiling security camera.

She raised her hand, pointed two fingers at the lens, and made a cutting motion across her throat.

In the control room, Warden Sterling slammed his fist onto the console, shattering the glass screen.

"She beat them..." Sterling gasped, his face pale as death. "She beat fifty men..."

"It doesn't matter," the man in the charcoal suit said coldly, taking out his radio device. "She was a distraction anyway. My team has already secured the basement servers. We are wiping the evidence now and initiating facility self-destruct. In twenty minutes, this entire prison will be buried under five hundred tons of rubble."
