Chapter 2 - The Ex-Fiancé’s Worst Nightmare — Confronting The Man Who Traded Her For Cash

Brandon Pierce thought he was having a brilliant Tuesday night. He was sitting in the VIP lounge of a high-end steakhouse on Dearborn Street, sipping a crystal glass of Scotch, surrounded by two junior executives he was trying to impress with his stolen money.
"The trick to the market, boys, is knowing who to bleed," Brandon bragged, leaning back in his leather chair, his expensive Rolex catching the light. "You find someone vulnerable, someone who trusts you blindly. You use their name, you clear out the assets, and by the time they realize they’re drowning, you’re already on the shore."
Suddenly, the heavy double doors of the private dining room burst open.
Four men in identical charcoal suits stepped inside. They didn't yell. They didn't draw weapons. Their mere presence radiated an icy aura of impending death. The junior executives froze.
"Brandon Pierce?" Leo Russo asked, stepping forward.
"Who the hell are you?" Brandon sneered, though his voice cracked slightly. "This is a private room. Get out before I call security."
"Security works for us," Leo said flatly. "Move."
Before Brandon could scream, two of the men grabbed him by his arms, lifting him clean out of his chair. They dragged him through the kitchen's back exit, throwing him into the back of a blacked-out Mercedes sprinter van.
Twenty minutes later, Brandon was dumped onto the concrete floor of a dimly lit, abandoned printing warehouse near the Chicago River. The air smelled of old ink and rust. He scrambled backward, his expensive suit tearing against the gravel.
"Do you know who I am?!" Brandon shrieked. "My father is a lawyer! I will ruin you!"
"Your father cannot save you from the shadows, Mr. Pierce," a voice echoed from the darkness.
A single spotlight flickered on. Sitting in a leather armchair at the center of the warehouse was Vincent Moretti. Beside him, standing in the shadows but clearly visible, was Clara Jenkins.
Brandon’s eyes went wide. "Clara? What the hell is this?! You complained to some street thugs because I dumped you? You psycho bitch!"
Vincent didn't say a word. He merely raised a single finger.
Leo stepped forward and delivered a devastating kick directly to Brandon’s ribs. The sound of cracking bone echoed through the empty warehouse, followed by Brandon’s agonizing scream. He curled into a fetal position, gasping for air.
"You will not use that language in front of her," Vincent said, his voice terrifyingly calm. He stood up, walking slowly toward the whimpering man. Vincent stopped, resting the polished tip of his Italian leather shoe directly on Brandon's broken ribs, pressing down just enough to make him howl.
"Clara..." Brandon sobbed, tears and sweat pouring down his face. "Clara, please! Tell him to stop! We loved each other! It was just business, I was going to pay you back!"
Clara stepped out of the shadows. The broken, trembling woman from the bar was gone. Looking at the pathetic creature on the floor, she felt a profound wave of disgust replace her grief.

"You told me nobody else would know what to do with all of me, Brandon," Clara said, her voice steady and cold as ice. "But it turns out, you were the one who was too small to handle a real woman."
Vincent looked up at Clara, admiration burning in his slate-gray eyes. "What do you want me to do with him, letting him live is a courtesy I only extend on your command."
