Chapter 2 - THE VIRAL TRAP

By 2:00 AM, the footage from the charity gala had breached every corner of the internet.

Selena Voss had spent her entire life cultivating her online presence as a high-society fashion icon and philanthropist. But the universe has a wicked sense of irony. The very phone cameras she had encouraged to film Aria’s humiliation became the instruments of her absolute destruction.

Despite the guests desperately attempting to delete their files, dozens of live streams had already captured the entire event. Within three hours, the hashtag #TheWrongManWatched was trending at number one globally across all major platforms. Millions of views turned into tens of millions. The internet tore Selena Voss apart.

In her luxurious penthouse apartment, Selena screamed, throwing a crystal perfume bottle against her wall-mounted TV screen, shattering it into thousands of spiderweb fractures.

"Delete them! Take them down!" she shrieked at her public relations manager over speakerphone. "I don't care how much money it costs! Buy off the platforms! Threaten lawsuits!"

"Miss Voss, you don't understand!" her manager panicked from the other end of the line. "It’s not just random users anymore! Harrington Global’s legal department has bought out the distribution rights to the raw footage and re-released it in high definition! They are running targeted ads featuring your face across every financial news outlet! Your father's company stock has dropped 78% in pre-market trading!"

Selena slammed her phone onto the glass coffee table, her breathing ragged. She looked at her reflection in the dark window pane. Her hair was disheveled, her makeup smeared with tears of rage.

Just then, her front door clicked open.

Her father walked in, looking like he had aged twenty years in a single night. His suit was wrinkled, his eyes hollowed out by despair.

"Father!" Selena ran to him. "Fix this! Call the governor! Call uncle! We can't let that fake orphan destroy us!"

SLAP!

The force of the strike knocked Selena onto her velvet sofa. She clutched her red cheek, staring at her father in absolute shock. He had never raised a hand to her in her life.

"You brainless brat!" Richard roared, his voice hoarse from crying and yelling at bankers all night. "Do you have any idea what you've done?! The banks have frozen our personal accounts! The board of directors just held an emergency vote and ousted me as CEO! The federal prosecutors have opened an investigation into our offshore holdings based on an 'anonymous' tip sent by Harrington Global at 1:00 AM!"

"They can't do that!" Selena sobbed, her arrogance finally cracking. "We are the Voss family!"

"There IS no Voss family anymore!" Richard screamed. "We are ruined! Bankrupt! Broke! And it’s all because you couldn't keep your sadism in check for one night!"

While the Voss family crumbled in their living room, a fleet of dark armored SUVs pulled up to the private penthouse suite of the Harrington Tower overlooking the shimmering city skyline.

Aria stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass, wrapped in a comfortable silk robe, holding a warm cup of tea. Her grandfather sat in a leather armchair behind her, a tablet in hand, reviewing the financial collapse of Voss Enterprises.

"You handled yourself well tonight, Aria," Leonard said softly. "Most young women would have broken down into tears."

"Tears are a waste of hydration, Grandfather," Aria replied calmly, taking a slow sip. "I knew you were coming. I knew the moment she put her hands on me that she was signing her own warrant."

"And yet," Leonard smiled faintly, "you let her tear the dress. You let her push it to the absolute limit. Why?"

Aria turned to face him, her eyes dark and calculating.

"Because if I stopped her early, people would have seen it as a petty catfight between two wealthy girls," she explained smoothly. "I needed her to demonstrate complete, unprovoked malice. I needed the world to watch her tear down a defenseless person. Public outrage is the most powerful weapon in modern warfare, Grandfather. You taught me that."

Leonard chuckled, pride illuminating his worn features. "You truly are my heir. But be careful, Aria. Desperate rats bite when cornered. The Voss family has deep ties to the underground banking network in this city. They will not go quietly into the night."

"Let them try," Aria said, looking down at the glittering city below. "I'm counting on it."
