Chapter 9 - The Truth UnveiledThe top of the clock tower was dusty, illuminated only by the pale moonlight streaming through tall stained-glass windows. In the center of the room stood an old mahogany desk covered in yellowed documents, old photographs, and legal ledgers.

Mason walked over to the desk, picked up a framed photograph, and handed it to Evelyn.

Evelyn looked down at the photo, and her breath caught in her throat. It was a picture of an elderly woman holding a baby girl outside this very estate—a woman who looked strikingly, unmistakably like Evelyn’s late mother.

“What... what is this?” Evelyn whispered, her hands trembling.

“Your mother, Clara, was the head archivist here twenty-five years ago,” Mason said quietly, his eyes locked onto hers with profound intensity. “She wasn't just an employee, Evelyn. She was the rightful granddaughter of the estate’s original founder. When my uncle took over through a fraudulent buyout, he forced her out, erased her name from the family registry, and buried the true deeds.”

Evelyn stared at him, dumbfounded. “My mother... an heir? But she died in poverty. She told me we had no one.”

“Because they threatened her life if she ever came back,” Mason explained, stepping closer. “When I inherited this estate last year, I spent months searching for the true heirs. I didn't hire you by accident, Evelyn. When I saw your application matching your mother’s handwriting months ago, I brought you here to protect you... and to restore what was stolen from your family.”

Evelyn looked from the photographs to Mason, the entire puzzle pieces of her difficult life suddenly snapping into place. The false accusation tonight wasn't just a random act of malice by Celeste—it was a desperate attempt by Celeste and Julian to destroy the only person standing between them and the estate's true ownership.
