Chapter 3 - BLOOD ON THE MARBLE

What happened next lasted less than six seconds.

Alessandro didn't panic. He moved with the terrifying speed of a trained martial artist. As the first guard reached out a hand toward Evelyn, Alessandro grabbed the man's wrist, twisted it inward until a sickening SNAP echoed through the suite, and drove his elbow straight into the guard’s solar plexus. The massive man dropped to the marble floor, gasping for air.

The second guard hesitated, pulling a concealed stun baton from his jacket. But before he could activate it, Alessandro kicked the chair beside him, sending the heavy velvet furniture smashing into the guard's knees. The man fell forward, hitting his head hard against the corner of the marble coffee table, knocking him instantly unconscious.

Sloane shrieked, taking three quick steps back into the hallway, her hands covering her mouth in genuine horror.

"You... you monster!" Sloane whimpered. "You assaulted my staff!"

"I defended my guest from an illegal abduction," Alessandro corrected calmly, stepping over the groaned guard on the floor and adjusting his suit jacket as if he had merely cleared his throat. "Now, Miss Hartwell, you have approximately thirty seconds to leave this floor before my personal security team arrives. And unlike your hired thugs, mine carry military-grade credentials."

Sloane glared past Alessandro, her eyes locking onto Evelyn with absolute hatred. "You think he’s going to save you, Evelyn? He’s using you! Once he gets the IP, he’ll dump you in the trash just like Mom and Dad did!"

"At least he doesn't pretend to love me while doing it," Evelyn said, her voice deadpan. "Get out, Sloane."

Sloane sneered, turned on her high heels, and fled down the corridor, her crimson dress trailing behind her like a streak of fire.

Alessandro closed the heavy door and locked it electronically. He turned back to Evelyn, his breathing entirely unhurried. "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine," Evelyn lied. Her body was shaking with adrenaline. "She wasn't lying about one thing, though. The emergency medical hold papers. If my father had a corrupt judge sign an involuntary psychiatric commitment order, the police can legally arrest me the moment I step out of this hotel."

Alessandro walked over to the suite’s mahogany desk, opened his laptop, and tossed a small black flash drive to Evelyn. "Then we don't leave through the front door. And we don't wait for the police."

Evelyn caught the drive. "What is this?"

"That is a direct encrypted uplink to the Zurich Financial Authority," Alessandro said. "Plug it into your laptop, upload the master key, and by midnight, your father's personal and corporate bank accounts will be frozen worldwide. He won't have the money to pay a judge, a lawyer, or a security guard."

Evelyn looked down at the tiny piece of hardware in her hand. This was the point of no return. If she did this, she wasn't just standing up to her parents—she was destroying her family’s legacy completely. She was burning down the house she grew up in.

"What happens to me after I plug this in?" Evelyn asked softly.

Alessandro stepped close to her, his shadow falling over her face. He raised a hand, his long, warm fingers gently brushing a stray lock of dark hair behind her ear. The touch was surprisingly tender, contrasting sharply with the violence he had displayed moments before.

"After you plug this in, Evelyn... you are no longer a victim," he murmured, his dark eyes holding hers captive. "You become my partner. Or my enemy. The choice is yours."

Evelyn took a deep breath. She walked over to the desk, opened her personal laptop, plugged in the flash drive, and began typing the complex algorithmic access codes she had memorized over five years of forced labor.

Lines of green code began cascading down the screen.

Suddenly, the hotel's fire alarm system began to blare loudly. Red emergency strobe lights flashed in the suite, bathing the room in an ominous blood-red light. The automated sprinkler system above them hissed, threatening to activate.

"They're flushing us out," Alessandro said, his tone darkening. "Your father pulled the fire alarm to trigger a building-wide evacuation. The police will be waiting at every exit."

"The upload is only at forty percent!" Evelyn yelled over the deafening scream of the alarm. "If I unplug it now, the data will be corrupted!"

"How long do you need?"

May you like

"Three minutes!"

The sound of heavy boots echoed from the hallway outside, followed by the metallic thud of a battering ram hitting the reinforced suite door.
