Chapter 4 - The Honeypot

"I'll sign," I whispered, my voice trembling perfectly, masking the icy resolve hardening in my chest.

"No!" Daniel grabbed my hand. "Don't do it. We'll fight her. I don't care if I go to jail, I won't let her take you away from the twins."

"Daniel, stop," I said, looking up at him with tear-filled eyes. "I can't let your mother destroy you. I'll do what she wants."

Eleanor’s smile widened into a predatory smirk. "Smart girl. You always did have a strong survival instinct."

I picked up the pen and scribbled my signature across the documents. Eleanor snatched them up, looking triumphant.

"One more thing," Eleanor said, pulling out a tablet. "The syndicate is still waiting for the last $150,000. Give me the trust fund transfer code. Now. Once the money clears, our business is concluded."

I looked at her, then down at my lap. Before meeting Daniel, I wasn't just a "middle-class gold digger." I was a senior forensic auditor for a major cybersecurity firm. I knew how to track money, and more importantly, I knew how to trap it. When Vanessa first started acting erratic months ago, asking questions about the twins' trust, I got suspicious. I didn't just lock the money away. I set a trap.

"The code is Aegis-774-Bravo," I said quietly.

Eleanor swiftly typed it into the tablet, authorizing the transfer from the trust account to Vanessa’s hidden offshore routing number.

"Done," Eleanor said, turning on her heel. "Have your bags packed by the time you're discharged. If you ever try to contact my grandchildren, I will end you."

She walked out, the heavy door clicking shut behind her.

Daniel collapsed into the chair, putting his head in his hands, completely broken. "I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry I brought you into this family."

I reached under the blanket and pulled out my phone. I ended the active call.

"Don't be sorry, Daniel," I said, my voice suddenly losing all its weakness. I sat up, wincing against the pain from my C-section, but my mind was sharper than it had ever been.

"What?" He looked up, confused.

"I didn't give her the code to the trust fund," I said, a grim smile touching my lips. "The money is safe. The account she just accessed was a honeypot."

"A what?"

May you like

"A decoy server. The moment she entered that code, it didn't initiate a wire transfer."

🔥 HOOK: I looked at my phone as a series of automated notifications began to roll in. "It initiated a self-executing script. It just emailed the real embezzlement evidence, the security footage of Vanessa's attack, and the audio recording of this entire conversation to the FBI, the IRS, and your company's board of directors. And that's not all."
