Chapter 2 - The Ghost in the Gallery 💥

Headline: A Hidden Watcher Flips The Courtroom Into Chaos! The Traitor In The Back Row!Thud!

The heavy oak doors at the back of the courtroom swung open violently. A tall man wearing a dark gray hooded sweatshirt and a low-profile baseball cap had thrown them open, desperately trying to push past the waiting citizens in the hallway.

"Hey! Stop that man!" the bailiff shouted, his voice booming through the sound system.

Nia spun around just in time to see the profile of the fleeing man. Even with the hood pulled low, she would recognize that posture, that hurried, arrogant stride anywhere. It was Marcus. He hadn’t just returned to the city—he had been sitting in the very back row of her traffic court hearing, watching her, calculating his next move.

"Marcus!" Nia screamed, a mix of pure terror and blinding rage erupting from her throat.

"Lock down the courtroom! Secure the exits!" Judge Kalisto roared, slamming his gavel down three times in rapid succession.

The alarms began to blare—a shrill, piercing wail that sent the entire room into a panic. Spectators began scrambling, ducking under benches, and creating a bottleneck at the main exit. The bailiff bolted down the center aisle, but Marcus had already slipped through the doors, disappearing into the labyrinthine corridors of the massive justice complex.

Nia dropped to her knees, immediately wrapping her arms around a crying Maya, shielding her daughter's body with her own. "It's okay, baby, it's okay, Mommy's here," she whispered frantically, though her own heart was hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird.

Within seconds, two additional armed court officers rushed into the room, securing the perimeter around the judge’s bench. Judge Kalisto didn’t retreat to his private chambers. Instead, he stepped down from the bench, bypassing his security detail entirely, and walked directly to where Nia was holding her daughter on the floor.

He knelt down beside them, completely disregarding the dignity of his black robes.

"Are you hurt, Ms. Vance?" he asked, his sharp eyes scanning her for injuries.

"He was here," Nia gasped, tears streaming down her face. "Why was he here? He took everything from us. Why won't he just leave us alone?"

"He didn't come here for you, Nia," Judge Kalisto said, using her first name for the first time, his voice dead serious. "He came because he knows what is inside this courthouse. The state district attorney is preparing to unseal a grand jury indictment against him and your sister at 4:00 PM today. If those documents are unsealed, every asset they have globally will be permanently frozen."

The judge stood up, offering a hand to help Nia to her feet. As she stood, trembling, a folded piece of paper fell out of the folder she had been holding earlier—the folder containing her original traffic citation.

But it wasn't a court document.

It was a sleek, black envelope that hadn't been there when she walked into the building. Nia picked it up with a shaking hand. On the front, written in elegant, familiar cursive handwriting, was a single name: Nia.

With trembling fingers, she tore open the envelope. Inside was a single index card with a chilling message written in red ink:

“You always were too loud, sister. Tell the judge to drop the case, or the next time Maya gets hungry, it won’t be for hamburgers. It will be for her mother.”
