Chapter 4 - THE ROYAL RUIN

Hook: Federal agents crash the altar, the bride's secret is exposed, and Mateo tries to commit the ultimate betrayal on live television."Nobody move!" the lead agent shouted, his voice echoing off the stained-glass windows. The paparazzi outside immediately began shoving past the security guards, their cameras flashing frantically through the open doors.
Mateo panicked. He instinctively took a step back, looking for an exit behind the altar, but two agents quickly moved up the side steps, cutting off his escape.
"Mateo Silva," the lead agent said, walking down the center aisle with absolute authority. "You are under arrest for federal financial fraud, embezzlement, and cross-border money laundering."
"What?! No! There’s been a mistake!" Mateo screamed, his voice cracking into a high-pitched whine. He pointed a trembling finger directly at Ximena. "It wasn't me! It was her! My ex-wife, Ximena! She ran the financial backend of my firm! If money is missing, she’s the one who took it! She’s trying to frame me because I left her!"
The guests erupted into a frenzy of gasps and frantic whispers.
Sofía pulled back her veil, her face contorted with rage—not at the police, but at Mateo. "Shut up, you idiot!" she hissed.
Ximena stood up slowly, keeping her arm tightly around baby Leo, who had woken up and begun to cry softly from the noise. She walked out into the center aisle to face the agents.
"Agent," Ximena said, her voice calm, clear, and perfectly audible to every gossip columnist recording on their phones. "My name is Ximena. I have been divorced from Mateo for eight months. I gave birth to his son four days ago. I came here today because I received evidence that Mateo forged my signature on those fraudulent transactions while we were married."
She opened her clutch, pulled out the metallic flash drive, and held it out. "Everything you need to prove his forgery and his guilt is right here. He set me up."
The lead agent took the flash drive, handing it to a technician behind him. He looked at Ximena with a neutral expression. "Thank you, ma'am. We are aware. We received a complete digital copy of these files an hour ago from an anonymous whistleblower."
Mateo fell to his knees on the altar, sobbing openly. "Sofía, help me! Your father can fix this! Tell them to stop!"
Sofía looked down at him with pure disgust. She didn't offer a hand. Instead, she turned to the lead agent. "Agent, my family has nothing to do with his crimes. In fact, we are the victims here. Mateo embezzled from our corporation. This wedding is obviously canceled."
"Not so fast, Ms. De la Vega," the agent replied coldly.
From the front row, Alejandro De la Vega stood up, his towering presence radiating immense power. "Agent, do you know who I am? Choose your next words very carefully."
"I know exactly who you are, Mr. De la Vega," the agent said, pulling a second document from his jacket. "Which is why I also have a warrant for your daughter, Sofía De la Vega, for conspiracy to commit fraud, restructuring illegal assets, and tampering with evidence."
The church fell into a dead, suffocating silence.
Sofía stumbled backward, her face turning completely white. "What? That’s absurd! I didn't do anything!"
"Our whistleblower provided text messages and recorded phone calls between you and Mateo from three days ago," the agent explained, signaling his officers to move forward. "Right after you discovered his hidden child at the hospital, you texted him stating that if he signed over 100% of his firm’s intellectual property to your family’s shell company before the wedding ceremony, you would help him alter the financial ledgers to pin the embezzlement entirely on his ex-wife, Ximena."
Ximena gasped, staring at Sofía. The pieces finally fell into place. Sofía hadn't forced her to come to the wedding to ruin her life out of petty jealousy. She had forced her there so the police could arrest Ximena on the spot, using her presence as 'proof' of her involvement, while Sofía and her father legally absorbed Mateo’s firm.
"You sick, twisted monsters," Ximena whispered, holding Leo closer to her chest. "You were going to take my baby's mother away from him just to save your family's money."
"Handcuff them," the lead agent ordered.
As the iron cuffs clicked around Mateo’s and Sofía’s wrists, the church erupted into absolute chaos. Guests were shouting, paparazzi were throwing themselves over the pews to get photos, and Alejandro De la Vega was screaming at his bodyguards to call his legal team.
In the middle of the madness, Mateo looked at Ximena, his eyes wild with desperation. "Ximena! Please! Don't let them take me! Think of Leo! I'm his father!"
"You are nothing to him," Ximena said coldly, turning her back on him.
As she walked down the aisle toward the exit, ignoring the flashing cameras and shouting reporters, her phone buzzed in her hand. It was a text message from the unknown number.
“Look toward the choir loft.”
Ximena stopped near the back of the church and glanced up at the high balcony overlooking the sanctuary. Standing near the massive pipe organ was a woman in a dark trench coat, her face partially shadowed.
As Ximena watched, the woman slowly raised her large sunglasses.
Ximena’s breath caught in her throat. She recognized her instantly.
It was Valeria—Mateo’s personal secretary and assistant for the last four years. The woman Mateo had constantly belittled, underpaid, and treated like garbage.

Valeria offered Ximena a small, respectful nod, raised two fingers in a silent salute, and vanished into the shadows of the choir loft.
Ximena smiled, a deep feeling of relief washing over her. The mastermind wasn't a powerful billionaire or a corrupt politician. It was the quiet woman in the corner whom everyone had ignored.
