Chapter 2 - The Mask SlipsJulian slowly pulled off his sunglasses. His eyes were wide with a mix of shock and pure venom.

"Clara?" Julian whispered, his voice suddenly losing all its smooth arrogance. "What are you doing on an economy flight to London?"
Clara looked him dead in the eye, her tired demeanor suddenly vanishing, replaced by a gaze of ice. "I’m going to the board meeting, Julian. The one you tried so hard to ensure I’d miss."
Julian’s knuckles turned white as he gripped his armrests. Two years ago, Thomas Vance—the brilliant co-founder of Vance Capital—had died under mysterious circumstances in a car crash. Within weeks, Julian had seized control of the firm, pushing Clara out and cutting off her inheritance claims by tying her up in endless legal battles.
Julian had assumed Clara was defeated, hiding away in a small suburban town with Thomas's newborn son. He had booked First Class under an alias, but due to a system booking error, he had been downgraded to Economy Row 12—a minor annoyance he thought he could bully his way out of.
He never imagined that Clara had deliberately tracked his flight, buying the seat right next to him.

"You think you can just show up with Thomas's kid and claim his seat on the board?" Julian sneered, leaning in close so only she could hear. "You have no proof of anything, Clara. Thomas signed his shares over to me before he died."
"Did he?" Clara replied softly, adjusting the sleeping baby in her arms. "Or did you forge his signature while he lay dying in the ICU?"
