Do not move, do not let Rick see you. If he comes toward you, run into the lobby of the building next door and lock yourself in the stairwell.”
Madison didn't wait. She scrambled down from the crate, grabbed her mother’s hand, and pulled her toward the street side.
In the apartment above, a window shattered. Rick Donnelly had found the discarded phone. He was coming down.
