Adam sat at his desk. His phone rang. It was Madison’s private number.
He didn't panic. He answered immediately. “Maddie? Everything okay?”
“Daddy,” Madison said, her voice full of mischief. “I lost my favorite teddy bear in the backyard and I need an emergency rescue.”
Adam smiled, standing up and grabbing his coat. “I’m on my way.”
He looked out at the city—a city he had once wanted to own. Now, he didn't care if he owned a single brick. He had a family.
