Chapter 9 - The Garden Party RedoThree weeks later, Maple Grove Academy looked very different.

The garden courtyard was once again draped in white canopies, but this time, there were no frantic parents, no nervous reporters, and no rushed schedules.
Instead, the entire courtyard was rented out for a private celebration.
At the center of the lawn sat a brand-new, state-of-the-art playground funded by the Hail Global Foundation, featuring a library nook named The Martha Bell Children’s Corner.
And sitting proudly in the front row, wearing a custom-tailored miniature navy suit that matched Jonathan’s, was Josie Lund.
Beside her, leaning heavily on a wooden cane but breathing entirely on her own, sat Martha Bell, dressed in a sharp floral dress with a matching pale blue ribbon pinned to her lapel.
Principal Vance stood at the podium, looking thoroughly terrified, holding a microphone that trembled slightly in his sweaty palm.
"And... and now," Principal Vance stammered, glancing nervously at Jonathan Hail, who sat in the front row next to Josie with an arm casually draped around the little girl's shoulders, "we would like to invite our most special guest of honor... to award a very special certificate."
Jonathan stood up. The murmurs of the invited guests—teachers, local neighbors, and close friends—died down into a reverent hush.
He walked up the wooden steps of the stage, but instead of taking the microphone to announce a multi-million-dollar grant, he walked straight over to Josie, scooped her up into his arms, and lifted her high into the air.
Josie let out a bright, ringing laugh that echoed across the courtyard, her little hands gripping the lapels of his suit jacket.
"You missed your graduation the first time, kiddo," Jonathan said into the microphone, his voice warm, rich, and completely devoid of boardroom coldness. "So we're doing a do-over."
He pulled a gold-embossed, custom-printed diploma from a leather folder and handed it to her.

Down in the front row, Martha Bell wiped a tear from her weathered cheek, smiling a crooked, triumphant smile as she watched the richest man in the world look at a little girl like she was the only treasure on Earth.
