Chapter 2 - THE BREAKTHROUGH AT THE THRESHOLDHook: The Door That Refused to Stay LockedThe heavy mahogany door of Apartment 402 shuddered under a ferocious barrage of blows.

"Renata! Open up!" Lucía’s voice cut through the stifling air of the dining room like a shattered windshield. "I know you're in there! The neighbor downstairs called me—she heard the crash, and I tracked your phone's emergency ping to this exact floor!"
Inside, the atmosphere turned to absolute ice. Doña Elvira’s coffee cup stopped halfway to her lips, a dark stain spreading across the white porcelain like an ominous map. Mauricio spun around, his face draining of every drop of color until he looked like a corpse standing upright.
"She... she tracked your phone?" Mauricio whispered, his voice trembling with sudden panic. "You shared your live location?"
Renata lay curled on the cold linoleum floor, her throat burning as if swallowed coals were lodged in her windpipe. Her vision blurred at the edges, tunneling into a dark, suffocating pinprick. Every gasp for air felt like dragging broken glass through her lungs. Yet, beneath the terror, a razor-sharp wave of pure, cold adrenaline flooded her veins.
Insurance. Debt. Murder.
The words echoed in her mind. They hadn’t just wanted her out of the way; they had calculated her death down to the final peso. Mauricio needed the payout to clear his catastrophic gambling debts, and Elvira wanted a domestic servant who wouldn't drain her precious son's resources.
"Lucía...!" Renata managed to scrape out a raw, desperate rasp that sounded like dry leaves scraping pavement.
Outside, Lucía didn't wait for an invitation. Being a senior cyber-investigator for the federal district attorney's office came with certain professional perks—including a heavy-duty tactical crowbar she kept in the trunk of her car for emergencies.
CRASH!
The sound of splintering wood echoed through the apartment as the deadbolt sheared straight out of the frame. The door flew inward, slamming against the living room wall with a deafening bang.
Lucía stepped across the threshold, her eyes darting like a hawk. In a single microsecond, she scanned the scene: Elvira standing frozen by the table, Mauricio backing away from the towering bookcase, and Renata collapsed on the floor, gasping for life with her skin turning an alarming shade of blue-purple.
Lucía’s gaze locked onto the top of the bookcase. There sat the blue medical bag containing the epinephrine auto-injector.
Right beside it, the digital picture frame was blinking furiously with an active, unmuted call recording indicator.

"Don't move," Lucía commanded, her voice dropping an octave into a tone of absolute, chilling authority. She didn't check on Renata first; instead, she whipped out her service badge with her left hand and a heavy-duty professional voice recorder with her right. "You're both on camera, and every single word spoken in the last ten minutes has just been streamed directly to the secure cloud server of the Federal Prosecutor's Office."
Elvira’s jaw dropped. Mauricio collapsed onto his knees, dropping his spoon with a metal clatter that sounded like a gunshot.
