Chapter 1 - THE COUNTDOWN

The second hand on my shattered watch clicked over.
2:00 PM.
Before Julian could process the blood-stained smile on my lips or reply to my warning, the massive stained-glass front doors of our gated estate exploded inward.
The heavy oak wood splintered into a thousand shards as flashbang grenades tore through the grand foyer with a deafening bang. Blinding white light and shockwaves flooded the room. Champagne fluted glasses shattered on silver trays, society ladies shrieked, and guests threw themselves beneath velvet draped tables in pure panic.
"FBI! ON THE GROUND! NOBODY MOVE!"
Dozens of tactical officers in heavy body armor, rifles drawn and laser sights piercing through the rising smoke, swarmed the ballroom. Tactical boots thundered across polished marble.
Julian stood frozen, his smug expression instantly dissolving into sheer terror. His mistress, Chloe, screamed as an officer tackled her to the floor, pinning her fake-tanned face directly into a crushed cupcake that still read WELCOME, LITTLE ONE.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Arthur Vance roared, his billionaire arrogance flaring even in the face of loaded assault rifles. "Do you know who I am?! I own the federal prosecutor in this district! I will have your badges by nightfall!"
A tall, sharp-eyed woman in a tailored dark suit stepped through the tactical unit. Special Agent Sarah Miller didn't even glance at Arthur. Her eyes swept the room until they locked onto me, lying bleeding beside the shattered gift table.
Her face hardened into pure ice. "Medic! Get the medical team in here NOW! Primary asset is down and injured!"
Two federal paramedics rushed forward with a stretcher. As they gently lifted me, Julian tried to back away into the shadows of the dining wing, his hands shaking violently.
"Julian Vance," Agent Miller’s voice rang across the silent, terrified room like a funeral bell. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit grand racketeering, wire fraud, illegal offshore laundering, and human trafficking."
"This is a mistake!" Julian shouted, his voice cracking like a terrified child's. "It's her! My wife! She's hysterical! She's crazy!"
Agent Miller stepped directly into Julian’s face and held up a thick, black binder filled with financial transfers, shell company deeds, and recorded phone logs.
"Your wife isn't crazy, Mr. Vance," Agent Miller said with a chilling smile. "She is Senior Forensic Auditor Evelyn Vance—and for the last fourteen months, she has been a sworn, confidential informant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Every paper you signed, every bribe your father paid, and every cent you stole was sent directly to us."
The ballroom gasped in unison. Arthur Vance turned a horrifying shade of grey. Beatrice’s champagne glass slipped from her numb fingers, shattering on the tile.
Julian looked at me as the paramedics strapped me onto the gurney. His eyes were wide, bloodshot, and filled with a horrifying realization.
"You..." Julian stammered, tears of panic finally brimming in his eyes. "You ruined us..."
I leaned up slightly from the stretcher, ignoring the agonizing, burning pain tearing through my swollen belly. I looked Julian dead in the eye, my voice quiet, icy, and lethal.
"I didn't ruin you, Julian. I just let the world see what you actually are. And as for your 'real heir'..." I glanced down at Chloe, who was sobbing uncontrollably on the floor in handcuffs. "Ask her about the fertility clinic receipts I found in her purse three weeks ago."
Julian’s head snapped toward Chloe. "What... what is she talking about?!"
Chloe closed her eyes, weeping hysterically, unable to look at him.

As the paramedics wheeled me out into the crisp afternoon air, sirens blaring across the entire neighborhood, the last thing I heard was Julian screaming in absolute fury as his empire burned around him.
Hook: But as the ambulance doors slammed shut, the heart monitor beside me began to beep frantically—and the paramedic’s face went pale. "We have heavy internal bleeding. The baby's heart rate is dropping fast!"
