Chapter 7 - THE FINAL DECEPTIONThe entire courtroom fell into a shocked, pin-drop silence.

Judge Reed paused, his gavel hovering in mid-air. "Explain yourself, Mr. Vance."
Julian let out a unhinged, manic laugh, his broken jaw making his voice sound twisted and distorted.
"She thinks she’s so smart!" Julian cackled, pointing his shaking, hand-cuffed finger at me. "She thinks she tricked us! Three years ago, when she went into the private clinic for her initial fertility assessments... I knew she was auditing my accounts! I knew she was looking into my companies! So I had Dr. Sterling swap the biological samples!"
My heart stopped. My hands gripped the edge of the wood table so hard my knuckles turned white.
"What are you talking about, Julian?" I whispered, terror rising in my throat.
"The baby she carried... the baby in that ICU... isn't mine!" Julian screamed, laughing maniacally. "And it's not made from her eggs either! Dr. Sterling implanted a completely unrelated surrogate embryo during her minor routine cyst procedure! That child isn't yours, Evelyn! You carried a stranger's baby for eight months! She has no legal right to that child! She’s not even the biological mother!"
The room spun around me. Darkness crept at the edges of my vision.
The three years of lies... the medical procedures... was it possible? Could they really have gone that far?
Dr. Victor Sterling stood up at the defense desk, holding his head high. "It's true, Your Honor. I have the original laboratory logs in my private database. Evelyn Vance is merely a gestational carrier. She shares zero DNA with the infant."
The prosecutor looked at me in shock. "Evelyn... is this possible?"
I felt like I was drowning. The entire world was collapsing around me. If I wasn't the biological mother, the state child protection services would immediately take my baby away and place her in foster custody pending legal resolution.
Suddenly, the heavy doors at the back of the courtroom swung open.
A man in a sleek dark grey suit walked down the aisle. He had commanding presence, military posture, and carried a thick silver metallic briefcase.
"That won't be necessary, Your Honor," the man’s voice echoed calmly through the room.
Julian snapped his head around. His eyes widened in sheer horror. "You... how are you here?!"
The man stepped up to the bar. "My name is Agent Alexander Cross, Director of the Federal DNA & Forensic Repository. And I am the anonymous source who provided Mrs. Vance with the internal security codes."
The entire room gasped.
Agent Cross laid a certified federal medical document onto the judge’s desk.
"Dr. Sterling did attempt to swap the biological samples three years ago," Agent Cross testified calmly. "However, what Dr. Sterling didn't know was that his head lab technician was a federal undercover agent working under my command."
Agent Cross turned and looked directly at Julian and Dr. Sterling with a cold, victorious smile.
"We intercepted the modified embryos three years ago and replaced them with Evelyn Vance's own true, untouched biological material—along with a pre-stored sample from a verified, legal donor profile Evelyn selected herself prior to her marriage."
Agent Cross turned to me, his eyes filled with profound respect.

"Evelyn... the baby girl in that hospital is 100% your biological daughter. She carries your strength, your blood, and your future. And the Vance family has zero genetic or legal connection to her whatsoever."
Hook: Julian let out a guttural, terrifying scream of pure rage and threw himself across the table toward Agent Cross—only to be instantly tackled to the floor by six armed federal marshals!
