Chapter 4 - The Betrayal Unravels

I sat perfectly still as Eleanor displayed the hotel logs and photographs on the evidence screen.

There was Brandon, laughing under the Miami sun, holding a glass of champagne, his arm wrapped tightly around Victoria Sterling—a woman who happened to be married to the CEO of his investment firm.

Brandon’s lawyer scrambled through his papers, his smooth composure instantly shattering. "Objection, Your Honor! My client's personal life during a marital separation is irrelevant to his parental fitness!"

"It is entirely relevant, Your Honor," Eleanor counter-argued fiercely. "Because the $180,000 stolen from my client’s family trust was used to fund Ms. Sterling’s corporate shell company—a transaction Brandon facilitated to buy his way into a promotion."

Judge Cole lowered her glasses, her eyes locking onto Brandon like laser beams.

"Mr. Brandon," Judge Cole said, her voice dropping into a dangerous, quiet tone. "Is this true?"

Brandon looked at his lawyer, then at the judge, his face drained of all color. "It... it was a business investment, Your Honor. Sarah didn't understand the corporate dynamics—"

BANG!

Judge Cole slammed her gavel down so hard the sound echoed like a gunshot.

"Silence!" the judge ordered. "You left a woman recovery-bound with six-month-old twins, claimed you were fishing, used her family inheritance to finance an affair with your superior, and then attempted to portray her as unfit?"

Judge Cole signed the temporary order immediately. Full legal and physical custody was awarded to me. Brandon was granted supervised visitation for two hours every fortnight at a state-monitored facility—and was ordered to surrender his passport immediately pending a financial fraud investigation.

As we walked out of the courtroom, Brandon lunged toward me, his face twisted in rage.
