Chapter 1 - The Shattered Mirror and the Secret TrustThe air in the grand hall of the Harrington Manor grew so dense you could hear the soft tick of the mahogany grandfather clock echoing against the marble walls. Five women, clad in high-fashion couture and dripping in diamonds worth millions, stood frozen.

“Noah, get back from her this instant!” Vanessa barked, her voice dropping its artificial sweetness. “She’s a servant, and that glass carries bacteria! Michael, aren't you going to discipline your child?”

Michael Harrington did not move. His dark eyes were locked on Emily Carter’s face. For nearly three years, Emily had been little more than a quiet shadow in his sprawling estate—always working before dawn, always polite, always keeping her head bowed. But as Noah held her hand, Michael noticed something that sent a chill down his spine: Noah’s eyes and Emily’s eyes were the exact same shade of striking violet-gray—a rare genetic trait shared only by the ancient Vance bloodline, the founding family of the region.

“Dad, she’s bleeding,” Noah said, his young voice cutting through the heavy silence. “The ladies didn't even care. They only cared about the vase.”

“It’s just a cup, Noah,” Olivia Prescott interjected, flashing a practiced, photo-ready smile. “Your father brought us here to find you a proper mother—someone who can teach you etiquette, diplomacy, and how to manage the Harrington fortune. A housekeeper cannot teach you those things.”

Emily pulled her hand back gently, her voice barely a whisper. “Please, Master Noah... go back to your father. I’m just fine. It was my mistake.”

“It wasn’t your mistake,” Noah insisted firmly, standing between Emily and the five heiresses. “Vanessa pushed the tray when she walked past you because you didn't bow low enough.”

Vanessa’s face flushed red under her designer foundation. “What a lie! Michael, are you going to take the word of an eight-year-old over mine? I am the daughter of Arthur Montgomery!”

Before Michael could speak, Arthur Montgomery’s name seemed to trigger an unexpected reaction in Emily. Her shoulders stiffened, and her gaze slowly lifted to meet Vanessa’s angry eyes. For the first time in three years, Emily didn't look like a timid maid. Her eyes flashed with an intense, haunting authority.

“Arthur Montgomery...” Emily murmured under her breath, a faint memory threatening to breach the dark haze that had shrouded her mind since her car accident seven years ago.

“Michael,” Emily said softly, using his first name for the very first time instead of ‘Mr. Harrington.’ “Look at the back of the broken crystal plate.”

Michael stepped forward, ignoring Vanessa’s protests, and picked up the largest shard of the shattered crystal. On the back, etched beneath the dust and blood, was not the Harrington crest, but a coat of arms featuring a silver falcon—the long-lost emblem of the Vance Estate.

“Where did you get this vase, Emily?” Michael asked, his voice trembling slightly.

“I didn't buy it,” Emily said, standing up slowly and wiping her hands on her apron. “It was stored in the attic. The attic that you locked seven years ago after the death of your wife... Victoria.”

The entire room went dead silent. The five heiresses exchanged nervous glances. Victoria Vance Harrington—Michael’s late wife—had died in a tragic fiery car crash seven years ago, leaving behind a infant Noah and an empire in chaos.

“How do you know what was in that locked attic, Emily?” Michael demanded, taking a step toward her. “Nobody has the key except me.”

Emily reached into her pocket and pulled out a worn, tarnished brass key. “Because this key didn't belong to you, Michael. It belonged to the woman who built this house.”
