Chapter 7 - The UnmaskingMargaret’s face turned completely white. "Broadcasting what?"

I pointed to the wall mounted television screen. It flickered to life, showing a live stream that was currently being broadcast across every major social media platform, news network, and government network in real time.
Over twelve million people were watching live.
On the screen was the entire digital trail: the bank records, the encrypted files, the footage of Ethan beating Emily, and the recorded audio of General Vance negotiating the sale of U.S. military intelligence to foreign buyers.
"You see, Margaret," I said, stepping right up to her as she cowered against the fireplace. "You thought you controlled the media and the courts. But you forgot that in the modern world, the truth doesn't need a judge's permission to go viral."
Comments were flooded across the screen at thousands per second:
"ARREST THEM ALL!"
"JUSTICE FOR EMILY!"
"HERO MOTHER EXPOSES MILITARY CORRUPTION!"
Ethan fell to his knees, sobbing hysterically. "Please, Colonel Hart! Please don't kill me! It was my mother! She made me do it! She told me I could do whatever I wanted to Emily and no one would stop us!"
"You cowardly little rat!" Margaret shrieked, slapping Ethan across the face with all her remaining strength. "I built this family! I built everything you have!"
"And you destroyed it all," I said calmly.
The sound of heavy choppers roared overhead. Spotlights beamed down through the shattered glass roof, blinding the room in stark white light.
Four FBI tactical helicopters descended on the estate lawn. Dozens of federal agents flooded through the broken entrance, their weapons drawn, led by the Director of the FBI’s Special Investigations Division himself.
"FPS CLEAR!" agents screamed, fanning out across the room.
The Director stepped into the lounge, looking around at the shattered glass, the wounded General, and the defeated Prescott family. He looked at me, then down at his digital tablet, which was still displaying the viral stream.
"Colonel Hart," the Director said, his voice deep and solemn. "The Department of Defense has officially reinstated your rank and cleared you of all charges. Effective immediately."
He turned his head toward General Vance and the Prescotts.
"Take them all into custody," the Director ordered his agents. "No bail. No phone calls. Charge them under the Espionage Act."
As the federal agents slapped heavy iron cuffs onto Margaret, Ethan, and General Vance, Margaret looked up at me one last time, her eyes filled with hollow, bitter defeat.

"You ruined us," she whispered, her voice cracking.
"No, Margaret," I said, placing my tactical cap back on my head. "You ruined yourself the moment you touched my daughter."
