Chapter 16 - THE EXPLOSIVE STANDOFFThe air in the terminal instantly turned electric with lethal tension. The red laser sights from Salvatore’s men locked onto Adrian, Dante, and me, while our tactical team held their positions, fingers resting nervously on their triggers. One twitch, one stray bullet, and the detonator in Salvatore’s hand would turn the entire concrete structure into our collective tomb.

"Drop your weapons!" one of Salvatore’s mercenaries shouted, his voice echoing off the iron beams.
Adrian didn't flinch. His dark, obsidian eyes remained locked onto Salvatore with cold, calculated fury. He slowly raised his hands, not in surrender, but to keep the attention entirely on himself.
"You're outgunned, Salvatore," Adrian said, his voice cutting through the freezing air like a razor. "Your syndicate is dismantled. Moretti is in federal custody. Your little army has nowhere to run."
"My army doesn't need to run, Valente!" Salvatore spat back, his knuckles white around the detonator remote. "They just need to ensure that the Vance name dies with dignity—taking the Valente empire down into the ashes right along with us!"
My heart hammered against my ribs. I looked at Adrian, then at Salvatore, and realized the old man was entirely unhinged. He didn't care about money anymore; he cared about absolute destruction.
"Grandfather, stop!" I screamed, stepping forward past Adrian’s protective reach.
"Elena, get back!" Adrian hissed, trying to pull me behind him.
"No, Adrian," I said, my voice steadying as a surge of fierce courage took over. I looked straight into Salvatore's cold, dead eyes. "You think you own us? You think blood gives you the right to destroy everyone we love? You ruined my parents' lives, you used Clara as a pawn, and now you want to burn everything down because you lost control?"
Salvatore’s face twisted in rage. "You know nothing of power, girl!"
"I know that power isn't about fear," I fired back, taking another deliberate step toward him. "It's about protection. It's about saving a freezing baby in a dumpster because human life actually matters."

While Salvatore was momentarily distracted by my words, his eyes flickering with sudden confusion, Dante made his move.
Moving with blinding, silent speed, Dante lunged from behind a rusted pillar, tackling the mercenary holding the primary explosive rig just as Salvatore’s thumb twitched over the detonator button.
