Chapter 5 - THE SIEGE BEGINSA convoy of five matte-black SUVs tore through the front gates of the Valente estate, smashing through the reinforced iron barriers as if they were made of paper.

Gunfire erupted instantly.

The sharp, deafening cracks of automatic rifles shattered the quiet night. Shouts echoed through the intercom system as Valente guards returned fire, but the ambush was overwhelming, precise, and brutally coordinated.

"Moretti’s clean-up crew," Dante growled, drawing his sidearm and sprinting toward the heavy steel security door. "Boss, they’ve breached the perimeter! They’re coming through the east conservatory!"

Adrian didn't panic. Beneath the shock of betrayal, the legendary crime boss reawakened. His dark eyes locked onto Karen with chilling calm.

"You thought you sold me out to the highest bidder, didn't you, Karen?" Adrian said, his voice terrifyingly quiet.

Karen’s smirk faltered for a fraction of a second. "Moretti is taking over this city, Adrian. You’re finished."

Bang.

Adrian didn't hesitate. Without breaking eye contact, he raised his gun and fired a single shot directly into the floorboards an inch from Karen’s expensive shoes. She shrieked, stumbling backward.

"Dante, secure the girl and her sister in the panic room beneath the vault," Adrian ordered, spinning around to face the array of monitors showing armed mercenaries swarming the hallways upstairs. "If anyone breaches this wing, use the gas."

"Mr. Valente, please!" I cried out, struggling against Dante as he untied Clara and roughly yanked us both toward a hidden steel panel behind the bookshelves. "My sister had nothing to do with their war! Let her get medical help!"

Adrian paused, glancing back at me over his shoulder. The harsh bunker lights caught the deep lines of stress etched across his face, making him look older, harder, and tragically human for just a split second.

"You saved my daughter’s life when every single person around me was trying to take it, Elena," Adrian said, his voice flat and resolute. "That makes you the only person in this room I trust. Now get inside before Moretti's men turn this entire estate into a tomb."

The heavy steel panel slammed shut, plunging us into absolute darkness, illuminated only by the faint, pulsing red glow of an emergency keypad.
