CHAPTER 9 — The DNA Match No One Was Ready For

Emergency lights flooded the basement in blood-red colors.

A hidden elevator began descending.

Michael stepped in front of Emily and Noah.

The elevator doors opened.

A tall man in a black suit calmly walked out.

Gray hair.

Sharp blue eyes.

No fear.

No hurry.

"You've been looking for me."

Michael stared.

"Victor Kane."

The man smiled.

"Finally."

He looked directly at Noah.

"Hello..."

"My grandson."

Michael exploded.

"Stay away from my son!"

Victor didn't react.

Instead, he calmly placed a DNA report on the table.

"I believe this belongs to you."

Michael looked at the document.

His blood froze.

The test had been conducted only three days earlier.

It compared Noah...

...with Victor Kane.

Probability of biological relationship: 99.9998%.

Emily shook her head violently.

"No."

"That's impossible."

Victor sighed.

"It shouldn't have happened."

"But forty years ago..."

"...Margaret and I built everything together."

Michael frowned.

"What are you talking about?"

Victor looked straight into his eyes.

"The fertility clinic was only one branch."

"We created an entire genetic selection program."

Emily whispered,

"You experimented on children?"

Victor smiled.

"We selected bloodlines."

Michael lunged toward him, but armed security guards surrounded the room.

Victor remained perfectly calm.

"You still don't understand."

He looked at Noah again.

"That boy isn't valuable because of money."

"He carries something far more important."

Michael shouted,

"What?"

Victor slowly answered,

"The last complete genetic key."

Then he pressed a button on a small remote.

A wall behind the shelves slid open.

Inside...

stood six teenagers.

All around Noah's age.

Every one of them had the same hazel eyes.

The same smile.

The same birthmark on the left shoulder.

Noah stared at them in horror.

One little boy stepped forward.

His voice trembled.

He looked directly at Noah and whispered,

"I think..."

"...you're our brother."

Michael realized the terrifying truth.

The DNA test hadn't uncovered one family secret.

It had exposed an experiment that had been hidden for generations.

May you like

And Noah...

was at the center of it.
