CHAPTER 5 — One Year Later, the World Learned the Truth

Exactly one year later...

The same technology conference where Adrian had once been crowned "The World's Greatest Visionary" held its annual awards.

This time...

I walked onto the stage holding Aurora's tiny hand.

The audience stood before I spoke.

Richard watched proudly from the front row.

The host smiled.

"Today we honor the woman history almost erased."

Behind me, the giant screen displayed two photographs.

The first showed me trapped beneath the swimming pool.

The second showed thousands of young female engineers working inside the new company I had founded.

Phoenix Systems.

A business created from ashes.

One reporter asked,

"If you could say one thing to Adrian today...what would it be?"

The room became silent.

I looked into the camera.

Then smiled.

"He thought drowning me would erase my future."

"I simply deleted his."

At that exact moment, breaking news flashed across every screen.

Adrian Voss had pleaded guilty to attempted murder, international financial fraud, and conspiracy.

He was sentenced to decades in prison.

As the audience erupted into applause, Aurora squeezed my finger and laughed.

For the first time in years, I realized something.

The pool hadn't been the place where my life nearly ended.

It had been the place where it truly began.
