Chapter 7 - The Hostile TakeoverThe sun had barely risen over Manhattan when the emergency board meeting was called at Sterling Global’s headquarters.

News of the wedding disaster had already wiped six billion dollars off the company’s market capitalization in pre-market trading. Wall Street was in a frenzy. Financial news networks were running non-stop coverage of the Sterling family feud, dissecting every detail of the kidnapped daughter, the adopted heir, and the ruined wedding dress.
Inside the sixty-fourth-floor boardroom, the atmosphere was suffocating.
The twelve members of the board of directors sat in uncomfortable silence around the massive mahogany table. Richard Sterling sat at the head, entirely composed, projecting an aura of absolute control.
The heavy glass doors swung open.
Julian walked in first, wearing a dark, custom-tailored suit, his expression carved from stone. Behind him walked Eleanor, head held high, back straight—reclaiming the fierce matriarchal dignity she had nearly lost.
And behind Eleanor walked Clara.
She wasn't wearing a ruined wedding dress anymore. She wore a sharp, minimalist charcoal pantsuit, her hair pulled back into a tight, professional chateau. Around her neck, resting visibly against her collar, was the Imperial green jade phoenix pendant.
Richard didn't blink. He gave a thin, polite smile. "Ah. Family reunion. I didn't realize we were inviting unverified guests to a board session. Security should have stopped you at the lobby, Clara."
"Security didn't stop us, Richard, because of this," Clara said smoothly.
She reached into her briefcase and pulled out a heavy, notarized document, slamming it onto the mahogany table. It slid across the polished wood and stopped right in front of Richard’s coffee cup.
Richard glanced down at the paper. His polite smile faltered for a fraction of a second—just long enough for Julian and Eleanor to catch it.
"What is this?" Richard asked, his voice dropping an octave.
"That," Clara said, taking the seat directly opposite him, "is a verified, court-ordered DNA lineage confirmation, coupled with the original trust indenture signed by your grandfather in 1952. Under the foundational bylaws of Sterling Global, any biological direct descendant possesses executive veto power over the CEO in the event of severe corporate fraud or familial endangerment."
The board members began murmuring anxiously, rustling through their own digital tablets to pull up the bylaws.
"You can't be serious," Richard scoffed, though a muscle in his jaw twitched. "You think a piece of paper and a twenty-year-old family dispute gives you control of a multi-billion-dollar enterprise?"
"It doesn't just give me control," Clara said, leaning forward, locking her fierce eyes onto the man who was both her father and her jailer. "It gives me the legal authority to initiate a full forensic audit of every subsidiary, every shell company, and every private account you've managed since the day I was stolen."
Eleanor stepped forward, placing both hands on the edge of the table, leaning over toward her husband.
"And as the majority voting shareholder," Eleanor added, her voice ringing with icy finality, "I second the motion. You're stripped of your title, Richard. Effective immediately."
Richard stood up slowly, towering over the table. The mask of calm corporate detachment finally slipped, revealing the cold, desperate predator underneath.
"You think you've won?" Richard sneered, his eyes darting between Eleanor, Clara, and Julian. "You think destroying me saves this family? Look at Julian! Look at the boy you raised as your golden savior! Do you even know who his real biological parents are? Do you know what family he actually belongs to?"
The room went dead silent.
Julian froze. His hand, resting on the back of Clara’s chair, trembled slightly.
May you like
"What are you talking about?" Julian demanded, his voice cutting through the silence like a blade.
Richard smiled, a cruel, triumphant grin. "Your adoption wasn't random, Julian. Hopewell didn't pick you out of a catalog. You are the direct grandson of our mortal enemy—the man who tried to bankrupt this company thirty years ago. I didn't adopt you out of kindness. I adopted you to keep the enemy inside the gates... and under my thumb."
