Chapter 12 - The Noon Board MeetingThe boardroom on the 50th floor of Duca Industries was a cathedral of glass, steel, and ruthless ambition.

When the double mahogany doors swung open, every head at the massive obsidian conference table turned. Twelve of the most powerful, hard-nosed executives and board members in New York sat in absolute silence.
At the head of the table sat Alessandro, his expression carved from dark granite.
And standing right beside him—wearing a sharp, slate-gray pantsuit that Sarah had rushed to procure for me that morning—was me. Holding Mia in a baby carrier strapped securely against my chest.
Whispers immediately broke out around the table.
“Silence,” Alessandro’s voice cut through the murmur like a razor blade. Every sound vanished instantly.
He didn't blink as he looked down the length of the table toward Arthur Sterling, the senior vice president of acquisitions and Victor Vance’s secret inside man on the Duca board.
“Mr. Sterling,” Alessandro said, his tone dangerously smooth. “You called an emergency session of the board this morning citing an ‘unforeseen threat to company stability.’ Care to elaborate before security escorts you out of the building?”
Arthur Sterling sneered, adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses. He leaned forward, resting his palms on the obsidian table.
“I’m talking about security liabilities, Mr. Duca,” Sterling shot back, his eyes darting maliciously toward me and Mia. “Word has leaked that an unvetted, unauthorized civilian—the daughter of our fiercest corporate rival, no less—has been living inside your private penthouse for months under a false identity. Now she’s holding an executive position without a shareholder vote? How do we know she isn't carrying out Vance’s final hostile takeover from the inside?”
The board erupted into a chorus of nervous, hostile murmurs.
I felt my heart pound against my ribs. I wanted to shrink back, to run back to the safety of the penthouse. But then I felt Alessandro’s hand slide quietly over mine, giving it a firm, grounding squeeze.
“Are you finished, Arthur?” Alessandro asked coldly.
Sterling blinked, taken aback by Alessandro’s absolute calm. “I’m protecting this company’s interests—”
“No,” Alessandro interrupted, standing up slowly so that he towered over the entire room. “You’re protecting yourself.”
Alessandro snapped his fingers. Sarah stepped forward from the shadows near the back wall, dropping a thick stack of printed financial wire transfers directly in front of Sterling.
“Federal investigators tracked every offshore bribe Victor Vance paid out over the last three years,” Alessandro said, his voice echoing off the glass walls. “And right here, signed with your personal digital authorization, Arthur, is the paper trail proving you leaked our architectural blueprints to Vance Enterprises last month in exchange for a seat on his phantom subsidiary board.”
Sterling’s face turned the color of chalk. He grabbed the edge of the table, his fingers clawing desperately at the wood.
“That’s… that’s a forgery!” Sterling stammered, sweat beading on his forehead.
“Try telling that to the federal agents waiting for you outside the elevators,” Alessandro replied casually.
Before Sterling could bolt, the boardroom doors flew open, and two federal marshals stepped inside, clamping heavy steel cuffs around his wrists. As Sterling was dragged out screaming obscenities, absolute, breathless silence fell over the room once more.
Alessandro looked slowly around the table at the remaining board members, who sat frozen in shock.

“Any other concerns regarding my executive appointments?” Alessandro asked softly.
Not a single person moved. Not a single voice spoke.
