Chapter 7 - Crossfire and ConfessionsChaos erupted in a fraction of a second.

Automatic gunfire tore through the corrugated metal walls of the warehouse, sending sparks and shrapnel flying in every direction. Antonio fired back with lethal precision, dropping two of the approaching assassins before diving behind a concrete pillar for cover.
"Stay down!" Dominic roared, grabbing Emily by the waist and shoving her behind a massive, rusted steel shipping container. Bolt barked frantically, scrambling into the narrow gap beside them.
Emily curled into a ball, her hands clamped over her ears as bullets pinged off the metal container just inches from her head. The deafening roar of gunfire made thought impossible.
Dominic crouched beside her, his body forming a protective shield over hers. He fired three rapid shots from his Glock, neutralizing a gunman trying to flank their position from the overhead catwalk.
"Are you hit?" Dominic shouted over the din, his dark eyes frantically searching her face for injuries.
"I'm fine!" Emily yelled back, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. "But we're trapped! There's no way out of the harbor!"
Dominic glanced toward the open bay doors at the back of the warehouse, where his speedboat bobbed against the wooden dock. "There's one way."
He reached into his jacket, pulling out a heavy, encrypted satellite phone. With two swift thumb strokes, he hit a priority override button.
"If we don't make it to that boat in twenty seconds, blow the pier," Dominic ordered into the device.
"Boss—!" Antonio yelled from across the room.
"Do it, Antonio! Clear our path!"
A series of heavy, muffled explosions detonated along the edge of the wooden dock, creating a wall of fire and water that cut off the advancing hit squad and blew the metal loading doors off their hinges, opening a direct escape route to the water.
Dominic grabbed Emily’s hand. "Run!"
They sprinted through the smoke and fire, Bolt racing right between Dominic’s boots with reckless, puppy-like enthusiasm. Bullets whined past their ears, clipping the wooden crates around them.

They leaped off the edge of the burning dock just as a hail of gunfire peppered the spot where they had stood a second before. They hit the speedboat with a violent splash, tumbling onto the cushioned deck.
Dominic immediately vaulted to the console, slamming the throttle forward. The twin supercharged engines roared to life with a deafening whine, kicking up a massive wall of white water as the sleek vessel rocketed out into the open bay, leaving the burning warehouse and the hail of bullets far behind.
