Chapter 5 - The Wedding Announcement That Shocked Wall StreetThe financial world woke up to a massacre on Tuesday morning.

Within minutes of the bell ringing on the New York Stock Exchange, Ethan Caldwell’s PR firm dropped an atomic bomb into the media cycle: a thirty-second video of Richard Haynes threatening blackmail, followed immediately by the unedited, crystal-clear footage of Victoria Haynes maliciously shoving a three-year-old child onto a marble floor.

The internet exploded.

Hashtags like #JusticeForLily, #CaldwellScandal, and #TheMaidsDaughter trended globally within hours. Victoria’s social media accounts were instantly flooded with millions of furious comments. Charity boards dropped her overnight. Her father’s real estate firm saw its stock plummet by forty percent before noon as investors pulled out in absolute terror.

Inside the Greenwich estate, however, the chaos felt a million miles away.

Rosa sat at the massive marble kitchen island, staring blankly at a tablet screen flashing headlines about her and Lily. Her phone was buzzing incessantly with calls from reporters, old college friends she hadn't spoken to in years, and news agencies offering six-figure sums for an exclusive interview.

She turned the tablet face down with a shudder.

"You don't have to look at it," a deep voice said.

Ethan walked into the kitchen carrying two mugs of coffee. He set one down in front of her before leaning against the counter. He had already done three live remote interviews with financial networks that morning, calmly confirming his relationship with Rosa and acknowledging Lily as his legal and biological daughter.

"Your life is destroyed, Ethan," Rosa whispered, not looking up. "Your company, your social standing, your reputation... it's all taking a massive hit because of us."

"My reputation?" Ethan let out a dry, humorless chuckle. "Rosa, for ten years I’ve played the game my father set up for me. I built a fortress out of glass and steel, and I thought that made me safe. Do you know what I realized when I saw you and Lily on that floor?"

Rosa looked up slowly. "What?"

"I realized I was living in a mausoleum," Ethan said, his gray-green eyes locking onto hers with absolute, unwavering intensity. "You and Lily are the only real things that have ever happened to me."

Before Rosa could reply, the kitchen door swung open.

Marcus stood there, holding a thick stack of legal documents and a small, velvet jeweler's box. He looked at Ethan, then at Rosa, clearing his throat awkwardly.

"Boss. You have a visitor at the front gate."

Ethan frowned. "Who?"

"Judge Harrison," Marcus said. "And a certified wedding officiant. You said you wanted to expedite the paperwork."

Rosa dropped her spoon. "Ethan... what are you talking about?"

Ethan turned, walking over to Marcus and taking the velvet box from his hands. He walked back to Rosa, dropping down on one knee right there on the kitchen's pale marble floor—the very same floor where Lily had fallen just days before.

The silence in the room became absolute.

"Ethan, don't be crazy," Rosa breathed, her hands flying to her mouth as tears welled in her eyes. "We haven't even..."

"We've waited four years, Rosa," Ethan said, opening the box to reveal a simple, stunning platinum band set with a single, flawless diamond. "I lost you once because I was a coward who listened to the wrong people. I am not making that mistake again."

He looked up at her, his expression fierce, vulnerable, and entirely absolute.

"Marry me, Rosa Martinez. Not as my maid. Not as a headline. As my wife. Today."
