Chapter 7 - The Billion-Dollar CounterstrikeWednesday morning did not bring ruin. It brought an execution.

While the financial markets opened to a flurry of panic-driven rumors that Caldwell Enterprises was facing a federal asset freeze initiated by Richard Haynes, Ethan Caldwell was already three steps ahead.
He sat at the head of the long conference table in his Manhattan headquarters, flanked by his legal team and Marcus. Across the table sat three senior investigators from the Department of Justice and two SEC enforcement directors.
"Mr. Caldwell," the lead SEC director said, sliding a thick dossier across the mahogany table. "We received a massive data drop late last night detailing systematic mortgage fraud, offshore tax evasion, and illicit market manipulation originating from Haynes Development Corporation. If these documents are authentic, Richard Haynes is looking at twenty years in a federal penitentiary."
Ethan picked up his fountain pen, unscrewed the cap with a slow, deliberate click, and slid a signed affidavit across to them.
"They are authentic," Ethan said, his voice cold and flat. "Every bank routing number, shell corporation offshore account, and forged building permit is cataloged in that drive. Furthermore, Mr. Haynes attempted to use those exact illicit funds to blackmail me yesterday morning regarding a personal family matter."
The investigator raised an eyebrow. "You're willing to go public with this? It will tank your own subsidiary's stock in the short term."
"Let it tank," Ethan said without blinking. "I’d rather burn every dollar I own to the ground than let a criminal touch my family."
By 11:00 AM, the hammer fell.

Federal agents raided Haynes Development Corporation’s Midtown headquarters in a coordinated sweep broadcast live on every major news network. Live footage showed Richard Haynes being led out of his penthouse office in handcuffs, his face shielded by a tailored suit jacket as reporters screamed questions about fraud, blackmail, and corporate corruption.
Simultaneously, Ethan’s PR team released a second statement: Caldwell Enterprises was officially cutting all financial ties with the Haynes family and establishing a multi-million-dollar trust fund dedicated to early childhood education and single mothers in New York and Connecticut—named in honor of a little girl named Lily.
