Chapter 6 - The Uninvited GuestThe wedding was not the grand, multi-million-dollar spectacle the New York tabloids had spent months predicting for Ethan Caldwell and Victoria Haynes.

It took place at sunset in the east parlor, right where the grand piano sat in a golden pool of light.

There were no society elites, no charity board presidents, and no paparazzi—though a dozen drones hovered discreetly beyond the tall glass windows, capturing every second for the evening news. Only a handful of people were present: Marcus, two trusted estate housekeepers, Judge Harrison officiating the ceremony, and little Lily, who wore a tiny white dress with pink ribbons and clutched her stuffed rabbit, Button, in one hand like a scepter.

Rosa stood facing Ethan, wearing a simple, elegant ivory silk dress that one of Ethan’s high-end designers had rushed over by helicopter that afternoon. Her dark hair was pinned back with delicate pearl pins, and her eyes shone with unshed tears.

"Do you, Ethan Caldwell, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?" Judge Harrison asked, his voice echoing softly against the high ceilings.

"I do," Ethan said without a single second of hesitation, his eyes never leaving Rosa’s face.

"And do you, Rosa Martinez, take this man..."

Before Rosa could say her vows, the heavy oak doors of the east parlor suddenly burst open with a loud, echoing bang.

Everyone froze.

Standing in the doorway was Victoria Haynes.

She looked a wreck. Her designer makeup was smeared, her hair was uncharacteristically disheveled, and her eyes were wild with a desperate, unhinged fury. Behind her stood two private security guards who looked apologetic and deeply embarrassed.

"Stop!" Victoria screamed, her voice echoing shrilly through the silent parlor. "You can't do this! This is a farce! You're marrying a gold-digging maid who planned this entire setup from day one!"

Ethan didn't even flinch. He didn't drop Rosa’s hand. He simply turned his head slowly toward the doorway, his expression hardening into a mask of pure, glacial contempt.

"Throw her out, Marcus," Ethan said quietly.

"Wait!" Victoria shrieked, taking three desperate steps into the room before the security guards caught her by the arms. She pointed a trembling finger directly at Rosa. "You think you've won? You think you're going to step into my life, take my husband, and live in my house? My father filed an emergency injunction an hour ago! The SEC is freezing all of Caldwell Enterprises' liquid assets as of tomorrow morning! You're ruined, Ethan! You're both going to end up penniless!"

The room fell into a heavy, suffocating silence.

Rosa’s hand trembled slightly within Ethan's grip. She looked up at him, a flicker of genuine fear crossing her features. "Ethan... is that true?"

Ethan didn't look at Victoria. He smiled softly, squeezing Rosa’s fingers reassuringly before turning back to Judge Harrison.

"Let's finish the ceremony, Judge," Ethan said calmly.

"Ethan, you arrogant bastard!" Victoria screamed, thrashing against the guards as they dragged her backward toward the double doors. "You're going to lose everything! Everything!"

As the heavy oak doors slammed shut behind her, cutting off her hysterical cries, the parlor returned to a profound, sacred quiet.

Judge Harrison cleared his throat, blinking in astonishment before finishing the prompt: "And do you, Rosa Martinez, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

Rosa looked at Ethan—at the man who had lost his empire, his social standing, and his family name in the span of four days, yet stood before her with more power and conviction than he ever had in a boardroom.

May you like

She smiled, a bright, radiant smile that chased away every shadow in the room.

"I do," she whispered.
