Chapter 5 - The Corporate War Room"Explain it to me again," Rosa whispered, her voice trembling as she dropped her suitcases onto the Persian rug. She sat Lily down in a chair, sliding a coloring book across the table to keep her distracted, before turning blazing eyes back to Ethan. "Explain how you managed to look so innocent while your board hunted me down."

Ethan walked around his desk, his expression tormented. "I didn't know, Rosa. Swear to God, I didn't know. Five years ago, I was handed the nano-solvent formula by my senior VP, Arthur Sterling. He claimed it was developed by our internal R&D team. I signed off on the patent, launched the green initiative, and made my first billion off your work."
"And when I refused to sign the NDA?" Rosa’s voice cracked, tears finally spilling over her lashes. "When I told Arthur Sterling that I wanted independent verification and academic credit? He cornered me in the lab. He told me that if I opened my mouth, my scholarship would be revoked, my family back home would be audited into ruin, and I would never work in science again. So I ran. I dropped out, I hid my pregnancy, and I changed my name just enough to survive."
Ethan slammed his fist against the bookshelf, shattering a decorative porcelain vase.
"Arthur Sterling," Ethan muttered, his eyes turning to absolute ice. "That manipulative bastard."
Before Rosa could reply, the heavy mahogany doors swung open wide.
Arthur Sterling walked in, flanked by two armed private security guards and accompanied by none other than Clara Vance.
Clara looked triumphant, her arms crossed over her chest, a cruel smirk plastered across her face. "Well, well, well. What a cozy little family reunion. The billionaire, his runaway maid, and the illegitimate brat."
Arthur Sterling adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, flashing a patronizing smile at Ethan. "Ethan, my boy, I heard you were making a scene over some domestic worker. I brought security to help you clear the trash out. Miss Vance here filled me in on the whole sordid little extortion plot."
Ethan slowly turned around. The grief and shock on his face vanished, replaced by the terrifying, cold calculation of a apex predator.
"Extortion, Arthur?" Ethan asked smoothly, stepping out from behind his desk.
"Of course," Clara chimed in, stepping forward. "She trapped you with a bastard child, pretended to be a poor innocent maid, and now she's trying to blackmail you for a slice of your fortune. I have the investigator's report right here. She's a fraud, Ethan. And I'm doing you a favor by exposing her."
Ethan didn't flinch. He picked up the dossier from his desk and held it out.
"Clara," Ethan said softly. "Do you know what this dossier contains?"
"Lies fabricated by a gold-digger," Clara snapped.
"No," Ethan replied, his voice dropping into a deadly register. "It contains the complete paper trail of Arthur Sterling embezzling intellectual property, threatening a pregnant university student, and committing corporate fraud under my nose."
Arthur's smile vanished. His face turned the color of curdled milk. "Ethan, don't listen to her—"
"Shut up, Arthur," Ethan snapped. "You thought you could steal a billion-dollar patent and scare a young woman into silence. You thought you could use my estate as your playground while you pulled the strings. But you made one fatal mistake."

Ethan looked down at Lily, who was quietly coloring a blue star in her book, completely unaware of the storm swirling around her.
"You threatened my daughter."
