Chapter 6 - The Fall of the Titans"You're bluffing," Arthur stammered, taking a step back as the two security guards he had brought looked uncertainly between him and their actual boss, Ethan Caldwell.

"Am I?" Ethan pressed a button on his desk intercom. "Marcus, lock down the building. Freeze all of Arthur Sterling's corporate accounts, revoke his access credentials, and have federal marshals escort him off the property. The tip has already been filed."

“Right away, Mr. Caldwell,” the head of security replied over the speaker.

Arthur lunged forward in a desperate panic. "Ethan, you can't do this! We built Caldwell Energy together! We made billions!"

"You stole a life," Ethan said coldly, as the two security guards—now turning on Arthur—grabbed the executive by his arms and dragged him kicking and screaming toward the door.

Clara stood frozen, her triumph completely shattered. She looked at Arthur being hauled away, then slowly turned her terrified eyes toward Ethan.

"Ethan... darling..." Clara whispered, her voice trembling. "We're engaged. We're high society. You can't ruin me over a maid—"

"We were never anything, Clara," Ethan interrupted, his voice devoid of any warmth. "Your father bought you a seat at my table through a corporate merger, and you spent every waking moment proving how utterly soulless you are. The engagement is terminated. Your penthouse lease, paid for by my corporate fund, is canceled. And if you ever come within five miles of my property again, I will personally ruin your family name until your ancestors feel it."

Clara opened her mouth to scream, but the absolute terror in Ethan's eyes stopped her. Without another word, she turned and fled down the hallway, her designer heels clicking frantically against the marble floor until the sound faded into absolute nothingness.

The study fell completely silent.

Rosa stood near the sofa, her hands tightly clutching her suitcase handle, her chest heaving as she stared at Ethan.

"You didn't have to do all that," Rosa whispered, her voice thick with emotion.

"Yes, I did," Ethan said, walking slowly toward her. He stopped a few feet away, respecting the boundary she had unconsciously set. "I spent four years living in a cold house, building a cold empire, because I didn't know what was missing. Now I know."

He knelt down on one knee, right in front of little Lily, who looked up from her coloring book with big, dark, curious eyes.

"Hi, Lily," Ethan said, his voice softer than Rosa had ever heard it.

"Hi," the little girl whispered, tilting her head. "Are you the man who yells?"

Ethan let out a choked, wet laugh, a single tear escaping his eye and rolling down his cheek. "Sometimes, sweetheart. But I promise I'm never going to yell again. Not at you. Never at your mom."

Lily looked at her mother for permission, then reached out with a tiny, spotless hand and touched Ethan’s cheek, exactly the way she had touched the piano keys.

"Your hands are warm," Lily declared solemnly.
