Chapter 7 - The Master Counter-Play

Julian collapsed against the wall, sobbing hysterically. "Dad... please... I'm your son!"

"And you were a disappointment from the day you were born, Julian," Arthur sneered without looking at him.

Ethan slowly lowered his gun. He looked at his mother, then at Lord Arthur. But instead of fear or despair, a faint, sharp smile spread across Ethan's face.

He began to laugh. A quiet, dry chuckle that grew into a confident grin.

Evelyn’s eyes narrowed. "What is so funny, Ethan?"

"You really think you built me, Mother?" Ethan asked, taking a step forward. "You taught me how to read people. You taught me to look for the fake seam in every suit, the lie behind every smile. Did you really think I didn't notice the tracking bug you planted in my badge three days ago?"

Evelyn’s smile faltered slightly.

"You wanted a public spectacle in the lobby?" Ethan continued, reaching up to his ragged brown coat, which was still slung over his shoulder. He pulled out the small lapel button on the worn fabric. "That wasn't just a poor coat, Mother. That coat belonged to a senior engineer at the Federal Communications Commission."

Ethan tapped his phone screen once.

"The moment I walked into this hotel, my coat wasn't just acting as a costume. It was carrying a high-frequency military-grade broadcast relay," Ethan revealed. "Every single word spoken in the lobby... every camera feed on Floor 14... and every word spoken in this vault for the last ten minutes..."

Ethan gestured up toward the concrete ceiling.

"...has been livestreamed directly to the Department of Justice, the FBI, and over four million viewers on social media."

Arthur’s face went dead white. He whipped out his phone. The screen was flooded with thousands of notifications per second. The live stream titled "5-Star Hotel Exposes World's Biggest Corruption Ring LIVE" was currently the number one trending video on the planet.

"You... you recorded us?" Arthur gasped.

"Not just recorded," Ethan said coldly. "Broadcast. The SWAT team entering the lobby right now isn't yours, Arthur. They aren't private security. That's the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and they aren't here to shoot me."
