Chapter 7 - The Inheritance of ShadowsThough Nathaniel Grayson was behind bars awaiting trial, the sprawling mansion still held secrets buried deep within its foundation.

Two weeks after the arrest, while workers were repairing the damaged wine cellar in the basement, a hidden compartment was discovered beneath the stone flooring. It wasn't corporate documents this time. It was a secure, climate-controlled vault containing something far more personal: boxes of letters, video diaries, and legal documents that Amelia Grayson had hidden away in case her husband discovered her initial escape plans.
Elise and Julian sat together at the large oak desk in the study, sorting through the digital archives recovered from the vault.
"Look at this one," Julian whispered, clicking on a video file dated just three days before his mother's tragic death.
The screen flickered to life. Amelia appeared, looking tired and pale, but her eyes burned with fierce determination.
“If you are watching this, Nathaniel has won the battle, but he will not win the war,” Amelia’s recorded voice echoed softly through the quiet room. “I have set up a secondary contingency fund. Not for money. For protection. If anyone who cares for my children ever uncovers this truth, they will have the legal and financial power to tear down every wall Nathaniel built.”
Elise reached out, placing her hand gently over Julian’s small fingers. "She knew you'd be safe, Julian. Even when she couldn't be here, she laid down the path."
"And you walked it," Julian said, looking up at her with profound respect. "When fifteen others turned around and ran."
"Because I knew what it felt like to be left behind," Elise replied softly. "No child should ever have to fight the dark alone."

As the video finished playing, a strange notification popped up on the computer screen—an encrypted message from an unknown overseas server, signaling that Nathaniel’s hidden offshore associates were making a desperate move to salvage what was left of the ruined empire.
The battle for the Grayson estate wasn't completely over. But this time, they weren't waiting to be attacked. They were ready.
