Chapter 5 - The Confession on the Fiftieth FloorChaos erupted in the boardroom. Security guards rushed in at my silent hand signal, pinning Victoria Vance against the glass wall before she could smash her terminal. Arthur Sterling gripped the edges of his chair, his knuckles turning white as he stared at the financial trail flashing across the mega-screens.

"This... this is a forgery," Victoria choked out, her professional facade completely shattered as cold metal cuffs locked around her wrists. "You can't prove anything! The flight logs were incinerated years ago!"

"Not all of them," a calm, synthesized voice echoed from the wall-mounted speaker system.

The boardroom speakers crackled to life. A secure remote feed was broadcasting live from my private estate bunker.

My breath hitched.

It wasn't a recording. It was a live audio transmission.

"Hello, Victoria," a voice spoke.

It wasn't my voice. It wasn't David's.

It was a voice I hadn't heard in seven agonizing years. A voice I had mourned over a closed casket. A voice that belonged to a ghost.

"Grace?" Arthur Sterling gasped, dropping his pen as his face lost all color. "No... that's impossible. We watched the wreckage burn!"

"You paid off the pilot to stage the crash, Arthur," Grace’s voice rang out, clear, cold, and echoing through the cavernous boardroom. "You and Victoria wanted complete control of the Blackwell-Vance merger, and my father's biotechnology patents were standing in your way. You gave me a choice: walk away and let my family live, or watch every single person I loved get systematically destroyed."

I stood frozen, the floor dropping out beneath me. She was alive.

"Grace..." I choked out, my voice cracking for the first time in a decade. "Where are you? Why didn't you come back to me?"

"Because if I came back to you, Marcus, they would have killed Lily too," Grace answered softly. "I had to hide in plain sight. I had to build a counter-network from the shadows. Karen was supposed to protect Emma while I finished closing the trap around Victoria and Arthur. But Victoria got paranoid. She had Karen killed to sever the last link to the offshore accounts."

Victoria thrashed against the security guards, her eyes wild with panic. "Shut her up! She's lying! She's a manipulative corporate saboteur!"

"She's not lying," I said, my voice dropping into a lethal, terrifying stillness. I walked slowly around the table until I stood towering over Arthur Sterling. The old man shrank back, trembling like a leaf.

"You killed my wife," I whispered. "You stole seven years of my life. And worst of all... you terrified my little girl."

Before Arthur could speak, the heavy oak doors of the boardroom swung wide open.

Standing in the doorway, wearing an oversized silk bathrobe that swallowed her tiny frame, holding her battered teddy bear by one arm, was Emma. And right behind her, holding her small hand, was a tall, slender woman with familiar, radiant emerald eyes.

Grace had come home.
