Chapter 7 - The Trap Sprung Too SoonThree days had passed since the dramatic confrontation on the fiftieth floor. Blackwell Tower was now under my absolute, unchallenged control. Arthur Sterling and Victoria Vance were locked behind federal penitentiary doors awaiting trial for corporate espionage, embezzlement, and conspiracy to commit murder.

Our Gold Coast estate had transformed from a cold, guarded fortress into a home filled with warmth, laughter, and the pitter-patter of two little pairs of identical feet.
Lily and Emma were inseparable. They shared clothes, whispered secrets under the bedsheets at night, and ate ice cream for breakfast with Grace's full, indulgent permission—something I would have never allowed in my strict, rigid days.
Yet, beneath the surface of my newfound domestic bliss, a nagging unease clawed at the back of my mind.
It was too clean. Too easy.
Men like Arthur Sterling didn't build multi-decade criminal empires just to fold like a house of cards because of a financial audit and a leaked audio feed. They had contingencies upon contingencies.
Late at night, while Grace and the girls were fast asleep upstairs, I sat in my private study reviewing the forensic data dump from Victoria Vance’s seized personal servers. I scrolled through encrypted chat logs, offshore wire transfers, and internal memos.
Then, I saw it. A flagged file marked with a triple-red classification: Project Janus.
I double-clicked the file. A high-security decryption prompt appeared. I input my biometric admin key. The screen flickered, and a pre-recorded video file began to play.
It wasn't Arthur Sterling speaking.
It was a man I had never seen before—a scarred, cold-eyed individual wearing a military-grade tactical uniform, sitting in front of a dark, industrial warehouse.
"Mr. Blackwell," the man said, staring directly through the camera lens as if he knew I was watching. "If you're watching this, it means Arthur and Victoria were merely the frontline pawns. You thought you won the game by clearing the board in Chicago. But Project Janus was never about corporate shares or board seats."
A cold shiver raced down my spine.
"Grace wasn't hiding from Arthur," the man continued with a chilling grin. "She was hiding from us. And by bringing her—and her second child—back into your high-profile estate, you've just turned on the homing beacon. We're already inside the perimeter."
The screen suddenly went black.

Before I could reach for the intercom to summon David, every single light in the multi-million-dollar mansion clicked off simultaneously. The smart-home system hissed, locking every steel-reinforced window and door from the outside.
We weren't safe. The real war had just begun.
