Chapter 19 - The New Life

Six months later.

The warm sun of the Italian coast shone brightly over a breathtaking cliffside villa in Positano. The crystal-blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea sparkled beneath the Mediterranean sky.

There were no armed guards in black suits patrolling the gates. No surveillance cameras clicking in the corners. Only the smell of fresh lemon trees and the salty ocean breeze.

On the lush green lawn, Noah was chasing a golden retriever puppy, his joyful laughter echoing through the air. Nearby, Tyler was sitting at an easel, painting the breathtaking ocean landscape, looking healthier and happier than ever before.

I stood on the stone terrace, wearing a light cotton sundress, sipping a glass of fresh lemonade.

Two strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind, pulling me close against a warm, broad chest.

"You're thinking again," Dominic murmured into my ear, resting his chin on my shoulder.

He wore a simple white linen shirt and shorts, his dark hair slightly messier than in his mafia days, looking younger, relaxed, and impossibly handsome.

"I was just thinking about how quiet it is," I smiled, leaning back against him. "No gunshots. No sirens. No Mrs. Hargrove."

"The old life is dead, Clara," Dominic said, kissing my cheek softly. "The Chicago Syndicate collapsed completely after Vincenzo and his lieutenants were arrested. The Vale name is gone."

"And what is our name now?" I asked, turning around in his arms to look up into his dark, expressive eyes.

Dominic pulled a small velvet box from his pocket. He opened it to reveal a simple, elegant rose-gold wedding band.

"Now... we are just the Reeds," Dominic whispered.

He slipped the ring onto my finger, next to the small, delicate band I had chosen to replace the heavy canary diamond.

"No more secrets?" I asked softly.

"No more secrets," Dominic promised, placing his hand over mine.

We kissed under the warm Italian sun, surrounded by the laughter of our children and the peaceful murmur of the ocean waves.

The nightmare was finally over. We had survived the dark shadows of the past and built a future out of the ashes.

Or so I thought.
