Chapter 3 - The Fake Paternity Test

"He Found the Envelope and Pulled the Trigger"Three hours later, the room was quiet. The baby was sleeping peacefully in the bassinet beside my bed, and Adrian was standing by the window, staring out at the Manhattan skyline. The tension in the air was so thick it was suffocating.

The door opened softly, and Victoria walked in, holding a white paper folder. A victorious, sick smile curled her lips.

"It's over, Adrian," she said smoothly, tossing the paper onto the foot of my bed. "The lab finished the rush DNA match. 0% genetic match. The boy is not yours."

My heart stopped beating. "That's a lie!" I screamed, trying to sit up, but the pain tore through my incision. "Adrian, I swear to God, I never touched another man! He's yours! He's yours!"

Adrian stood motionless. He didn't pick up the paper. He didn't look at me. His back remained turned toward the window.

"Adrian, please!" tears blinded me. "Look at me!"

Victoria folded her arms. "I've instructed security to escort Miss Carter and the child out of the building. The settlement offer is canceled due to fraud."

Finally, Adrian turned around.

His face wasn't angry. It was empty. A dead, chilling void.

He walked slowly toward the bed, picked up the DNA report, and scanned it briefly.

"0%," Adrian read softly.

"Yes," Victoria said proudly. "Now let the guards take—"

BANG!

A loud slap echoed through the room as Adrian grabbed Victoria by the throat and pinned her against the wall.

"Adrian!" I gasped, terrified.

"Did you really think I was that stupid, Mother?" Adrian hissed, his voice dropping into an octave that chilled the entire room. He pulled a second paper from his inner suit pocket and shoved it into Victoria's face.

"I sent a duplicate sample through my own private security team directly to Johns Hopkins two hours ago," Adrian whispered viciously. "99.9% match. He is my son. My direct heir."

Victoria's eyes bulged with fear. "Adrian... you don't understand... that woman will ruin you..."

"No," Adrian gritted his teeth, releasing her throat so violently she collapsed onto the carpet. "You are the one who is ruined. Effective immediately, your shares in Whitmore Holdings are frozen under the mental incapacity clause. Security!"

Two massive private guards stepped into the room.

"Remove this woman from my sight. If she comes within one hundred yards of my wife or my son again, terminate her trust fund."

As Victoria was dragged screaming down the hallway, Adrian collapsed into the chair beside my bed. He buried his face in his hands, his shoulders shaking uncontrollably.

"I'm sorry, Lena," he sobbed quietly. "I'm so sorry I let them drive you away eight months ago..."

I reached out, running my fingers through his dark, messy hair. "Adrian... your mother isn't the reason I ran away."

He froze, slowly lifting his eyes to mine. "What do you mean?"

"The reason I left," I whispered, panic rising in my throat again, "is because of the letter I found in your safe. The letter signed by your father... claiming you killed my parents."
